ABOUT BOB’S PROJECT BIKES
Every year, Bob’s BMW gets the opportunity to buy or take a trade-in on a number of bikes that need more service work than the average trade-in before they can be resold. While every bike is different and will come with its own unique challenges and opportunities, they all have one thing in common. All of these bikes will make dependable, fun, safe and roadworthy rides once all the work is completed, otherwise we would simply part them out, like we once did when Bob’s BMW was Bob’s Used Parts! These are the bikes Bob’s BMW refers to as PROJECT BIKES.
Some PROJECT BIKES arrive at our door step and others Bob finds when he’s hunting and gathering! Some bikes need extensive mechanical repairs and/or above average cosmetic attention. And then there are those that simply need a few weekends or evenings of TLC, sweat equity, an assortment of reasonably priced parts, and a minimum of actual technical expertise. For one reason or another we’ve chosen to sell bikes like these as PROJECT BIKES. We provide as much information as possible so every buyer can make an informed decision. Plus when you purchase your project from Bob’s, you get a discount on any and all parts purchased from Bob’s that are needed to service, maintenance, refurbish, or restore the machine. Your sales rep will provide you complete details on this special offer at time of purchase.
Most PROJECT BIKES get trailered home and show back up a few weeks or several months later at Bob’s to be run through the Maryland State Inspection. Others are left at Bob’s for one of our BMW Certified Master Technicians to do their magic and tackle the larger issues. Our BMW Certified Master Technicians are dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of BMW motorcycles and have the expertise and desire, as well as the critically important special tools required to work on your PROJECT BIKE whether it needs a tune up, a minor repair, a medium overhaul, a simple refurbishing or even a complete restoration to like-new condition.
No matter how you decide to complete your project, we can assure you we make the purchasing process as safe as possible considering one is basically making a flea market purchase, Bob’s BMW intentionally, willingly and gladly shares all information we can gather from prior owners and from our own detailed, in-depth inspection to make the descriptions as accurate as possible. Multiple images are also provided to help you make an informed decision. We do wish to make you fully aware that it is impossible to know every detail about a PROJECT BIKE especially when some don’t even start up and run which is why they are sold AS IS, and without a warranty or guarantee of any kind. All of this is clearly stated on the Bill of Sale. So we strongly invite and encourage you to take a close look at any of the bikes you are considering; bring a friend if you desire.
You may also perform your own inspection here (short of disassembling a bike) prior to making a selection and completing a purchase. We have nothing to hide and want you to know as much as possible. If you ask us a question you will receive the best answer we are able to offer from the information we have and the knowledge gained based on over 30 years of expertise and experience in this business; our collective years of knowledge and experience is now measured by centuries.
We want you to be happy and we don’t want there to be any surprises, especially expensive ones. And remember, if we did not believe these bikes would make dependable, fun, safe and roadworthy rides once all the work is completed, we would simply part them out!
Finally, these bikes are not stored at the main dealership location. They are stored in Bob’s other warehouse so an appointment is required in advance to schedule. Saturday is usually NOT a day this can be arranged but it is not out of the question.
