Honda’s Africa Twin models, introduced in 2016, have become well-established as solid performing, less-expensive (and often lighter) alternatives to the dominant European liter-class Adventure bikes (without mentioning any names, of course). Nine inches of suspension travel at each end, good ground clearance and 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels give the bike notably good off-road handling for a 500-pound motorcycle, and offering enough on-road manners for light sport-adventure riding and touring, too. Design improvements made year after year only increased its stature and approval with critics and riders alike. Now, with the further upgrades featured on the 2020 Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES, we can say this is truly a long-distance Adventure bike. Highlights include Showa Electronically Equipped Ride Adjustment (EERA) semi-dynamic suspension, new tubeless spoked wheels and tires, cruise control and a nearly 2-inch-lower adjustable seat (now comparable in height to the Africa Twin’s). Furthermore, there’s a vastly expanded electronics package with a new Bosch 6-axis IMU enabling all sorts of fun stuff. Engine braking control returns and the range of intervention for the 7-level HSTC, or traction control, has been expanded. New interventions include cornering and off-road ABS, rear lift control and 3-level wheelie control. Heated grips, a larger skid plate, aluminum rear rack and a 12-volt outlet are standard on the ES as well. Whew! There is so much VALUE packed into this bike!
In the capable hands of our in-house Pro Detailer, this 2020 Africa Twin has been deep-cleaned and detailed to magnificence. At first glance, it looks perfect and would easily pass for brand-new. And even when you look a bit closer to see the few insignificant signs of the previous owner’s use, you’ll find little to detract from your first glowing impression. There is evidence that a light tip-over on the right side bumped the aluminum panel on which the Honda logo badge is mounted, resulting in the badge not laying perfectly flat. We mention this because you can barely see it in the photos – or when viewing in person, and we wanted you to be aware of it. The same tip-over may have been the cause of a couple of small scratches visible on the muffler and right-side handguard as well. Finally, you can see a tiny ding & scratch on the tank, also on the right side. We think that within the context of this bike’s overall brilliant appearance, none of these blemishes amount to much. But we gladly invite you to come see the bike for yourself (hurry!) and be the ultimate judge.

This barely used dual sport runs like brand-new, of course, and you should expect nothing less. Our Service guys have checked it top-to-bottom for mechanical integrity, performance and safety. Its fluids, filters, tires, and battery are all fresh and full of life. Additionally, though, we flushed and replaced the brake fluid, lubed and adjusted the chain, applied a fuel treatment to assure clean throttle and injector function, filled both tires with nitrogen to maximize their wear and performance, and installed a Battery Tender quick-connect harness to make your future routine battery maintenance as convenient as possible. We took it out for an extended Test Ride to prove its performance and roadworthiness in the real world, then put it through the Maryland Safety Inspection (passed!) for its final official qualification to ride it home.
