This R1250GS was purchased new and serviced faithfully at Bob’s. Its last visit to our service department was in January of this year and at that time we performed the standard 6,000 mile recommended service, and only about 1,000 miles was ridden since then. When it came back to us recently for trade (its owner is a regular customer of ours who likes to trade often for the latest & newest), we ran it through the same stringent evaluation process we do with every incoming pre-owned bike — essentially turning it inside out to examine each and every component and function, looking for any flaw, any part that may show excessive wear, any performance or safety issue that could possibly stand in the way of providing the next owner with the best possible experience. If and when we find those things we fix or replace them. Because we’re not in the business of passing on problems; we’re in the business of passing on perfect motorcycles.
We’re very happy to report that this bike did not require much to bring it up to our high standards. We gave it a Bi-Annual service which included a front and rear brake fluid change among other things. Otherwise, its tires, battery, ABS, clutch, and all other critical systems are in excellent condition and will provide thousands of miles of happy riding ahead. We test rode it ourselves to be sure, and then put it through Maryland State Inspection for its final and official seal of approval.
On the cosmetic side of things, well, it is obvious how impeccably good this bike looks. But we will tell you about two issues we found: one that needed intervention and one that didn’t. In our evaluation we saw some scratches in the paint on the front upper fender – the “beak” as it is often referred to – that were too deep to resolve, even after our rigorous detailing process. So, we replaced the beak with a new one. The other issue was a superficial scratch on the right-side valve cover. The appearance of that scratch improved considerably with our detailing and we decided that, since it’s in a location that doesn’t stand out too visibly, it would be acceptable to leave in place. You can still see it if you look closely, but we’re confident it will not hinder your pleasure in owning this bike one bit. We also noted some typical signs of wear on the top case, but these all but disappeared in the hands of our pro detailer, who is a MAGICIAN!
