With motorcycles, nothing’s cooler than Air-Cooled. The BMW marketing writers once wrote this about the R nineT Scrambler: “Feel the wind, lean into every curve and experience the freedom in every mile you ride.” And we have to say, they were spot on. This bike captures a feeling like few others do.
It arrived with these factory-installed options: Heated Grips, Cross Spoke Wheels, and Off-Road Tires. The only other addition was BMW Knee Pads on the tank which were installed by the previous owner. This bike is simplicity defined. And that’s what we like about it.
Cosmetically, it showed slight surface corrosion in a couple spots when we first evaluated it, but after our pro detailer got his hands on it, the problem was erased. Also noted were a couple very tiny paint chips on the tank. They’re not visible in these photos, and when you come to see the bike in person, you still may never find these minuscule flaws. Bottom line: this machine is clean as a whistle; basically still like new.
Similarly, our pros in the service department couldn’t find much to do with this bike. It had its 6,000 mile service on schedule and was barely ridden since then. Our guys checked it out thoroughly, installed a battery tender lead for your convenience in future battery maintenance and filled the tires with nitrogen to enhance their performance and longevity. The one notable service procedure they did was to give it a thorough fuel treatment which is standard procedure for bikes that have recently spent more time sitting than moving. But we are pleased to report that, mechanically, there’s absolutely nothing that should give you the slightest worry. Just Ride It. And then ride it some MORE.
