While a bike such as this BMW G310GS could be called an “entry level” model, it’s still a BMW! That means the classification takes nothing away from the quality of the build, the durability, or the FUN that can be had riding one; the label is merely descriptive of the niche it fills in the marketplace. Yes, some riders will use an entry level bike as a stepping stone to something bigger later on. But for many riders, a basic model like this compact dual-sport fulfills their needs perfectly and no further upgrading is required. And it’s nice to know that there is so much you can do with them: customizing, modifying, accessorizing to exactly suit the kind of riding experience you want to have — a travel bike, a commuter, a weekend escape machine, or whatever you envision. This G310GS was purchased just over two years ago at Bob’s. Well cared for and with less than 4,000 miles, the bike is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition. What a perfect opportunity to get started on a BMW. It’s lightweight and nimble, with a 34 horsepower, torquey, single cylinder motor that behaves in sporting fashion and feels as much fun as it does capable and controlled. A great runabout in the city or suburbs, and a total pleasure out on the twisting ribbons of country blacktop. But if the pavement ends your ride isn’t over — because this bike’s got the chassis design and compliant suspension along with some special added equipment you need to feel confident taking on rougher surfaces. Dirt, mud, rugged gravel roads? — no problem. Explore! That equipment these nice extras: a heavy duty skid plate to protect the motor, an R&G radiator protection grill, Barkbusters Handguards with a carbon fibre look, a Tail-Tidy which is a combination taillight/turn signal/license plate bracket much smaller than the stock one that lightens the rear end of the bike, and a custom after-market oil fill plug.
Yeah, but how does it run? Answer: flawlessly. When it came back to us in trade, we gave it our thorough safety and performance evaluation and found no issues whatsoever. You should know: our top technicians leave no stone unturned when they examine pre-owned bikes – even ones with very low miles that appear to be in perfect condition. Every component and performance aspect is checked out, first on the lift, and then as part of a critical test ride. With this motorcycle you will have no worries. The bike had been brought to us by its previous owner for a scheduled service just one month ago – and with barely miles ridden in the interim. That included an oil & filter change and general checkup. Then when it came back in trade, we went further and refreshed the brake fluid, did a fuel system service, and filled the tires with nitrogen to enhance their performance and longevity. Finally, for the formal seal of approval, the bike went through the tough Maryland Safety Inspection. This one, of course, passed without a hitch.
On the cosmetic side of things, well, you can see for yourself: the bike is gorgeous. It is one of the very few bikes we’ve seen that doesn’t even appear to have tipped over! That’s extremely rare. You might notice some minor heat discoloration on the exhaust components, but that happens to EVERY motorcycle within the first hours of use. So, if you told someone you bought this bike new yesterday, they would have no reason to disbelieve you. Our in-house pro detailer went to work on this machine to bring out its best. He cleaned every crevice and polished it to a glowing luster, so that it now shines as good as new. The ONLY thing that will make G310GS look better is the beaming smile on your face when you ride it home.
