As with all PROJECT BIKES we want buyers to know as much as possible about the bike before making a purchase. We’ve nothing to hide and our only goal is that the new owner for each and every PROJECT BIKE feels they paid fairly and got a good, if not great value in the deal. We encourage people to call, schedule a time to meet with one of our sales advisors and inspect each machine in person so they fully understand all the positives as well as the potential downsides involved in the refurbishing process. Please take a moment to learn more about Bob’s PROJECT BIKE program and read our general disclaimer HERE.
Let’s provide a brief summary of its present condition and what you might expect for the future if you decide to make this PROJECT BIKE your winter’s work. This K1200GT was purchased at Bob’s on March of 2008 and has had only ONE owner the entire time. We know that its owner enjoyed this bike a great deal; its high mileage being the most sure sign of the happy relationship between rider and machine. We also know that, for most of the time he owned the bike he cared for its maintenance needs responsibly, completing all the routine services as scheduled — until recently. After nearly 15 years of ownership, as in almost any relationship, some of its deferred maintenance needs were beginning to pile up and, and well… he decided to simply trade up for something newer. But a BMW — even with 100K on the clock — is nowhere near ready to retire. There is another life here waiting to be lived and we know there are a lot of riders who would embrace the challenge of giving this noble steed ANOTHER 100K of spirited riding.
We are offering it as a PROJECT BIKE, not only due to its high mileage, but because it also needs some work done sooner rather than later. There are some wear items that need replacing; in particular, it should have brake rotors and pads replaced all around. The front calipers are dragging and that is most likely the cause. The bike starts up, idles and otherwise goes down the road well, however the engine stumbles (or misfires) a little bit when accelerating from low RPM. The bike is now due for a full service visit and we can presume that the running issues would be resolved with standard maintenance procedures. You should know that our techs have deemed this bike “unsafe to ride” in its present state because of the braking issues.
This liquid-cooled, inline 4-cylinder powerhouse is also very well equipped with Factory Options and after-market accessories. It all adds up to make this Project Bike a super VALUE! Here’s a rundown:
• On Board Computer • ESA II (Electronic Suspension Adjustment)
• ASC (Automatic Stability Control) • Anti-Theft Alarm System
• TPM (Tire Pressure Monitoring) • BMW High Windshield
• Cruise Control • Xenon Headlight
• Heated Seat • Heated Grips
• Clearwater “Krista” LED Driving Lights • PIAA Fork-mounted Auxiliary Lights (one is not working)
• BMW Tank Bag • Garmin GPS mounting • RAM Accessory Mounts
• TechSpec Tank Kneepads • Accessory Shelf with Garmin XM Antenna
• Sidestand Foot Expander • HyperLite Aux LED Brake Light
The cosmetic condition is quite good for a bike of this age and miles. Most of all it could use a deep cleaning and detailing, of course. Beyond that, however, you will see scratches on both left- and right-sides typical of tip-over damage. Where it’s most visible is on the saddlebags and lower fairing edges. There is no severe damage of any kind and no sign the bike was ever crashed. These photos present a realistic portrait. (NOTE, by the way, the TIRES on it are like new!)
In short, this PROJECT BIKE is not a long distance away from being a great ride with a great future for the enterprising, mechanically inclined rider who decides to embark on a relationship with it. GO for it!
