Description

NEW ARRIVAL!
This Triumph Speed Triple 1050 starts and runs! We’re offering it as a PROJECT BIKE because, in its present condition, it doesn’t run too well. And it has numerous cosmetic issues. More on that below. The important thing is that we have every reason to believe that its ills are all FIXABLE, but that its repair and restoration would be better accomplished as the “passion project” of its owner rather than a dealership project. That, in fact, is the essence of a PROJECT BIKE. Come look! Or, if you want to know more RIGHT NOW, please call 1-888-269-2627 to speak with one of our BMW Certified Sales Advisors —Jim, Todd or David. Call TODAY!

The Triumph Speed Triple is the quintessential streetfighter — a bike that created a whole new segment of motorcycling fun. Upright seating, motocross-style handlebars, a 1,050cc inline 3-cylinder, DOHC engine that delivers 105 horses at 9,250 rpm, and a 56.3” wheelbase makes for a ride that’s truly like no other! The Speed Triple has legions of die-hard fans, ONE of whom is bound to recognize the potential for glory in this PROJECT BIKE.

As with all PROJECT BIKES we want buyers to know as much as possible about the bike before making a purchase. We’ve nothing to hide and our only goal is that the new owner for each and every PROJECT BIKE feels they paid fairly and got a good, if not great value in the deal. We encourage people to call, schedule a time to meet with one of our sales advisors and inspect each machine in person so they fully understand all the positives as well as the potential downsides involved in the refurbishing process. Please take a moment to learn more about Bob’s PROJECT BIKE program and read our general disclaimer HERE.

Please NOTE: the speedometer reads in kilometers. (The bike was not purchased in the U.S.) Currently, the odometer reading is at 13,662 kilometers, which converts to 8,489 miles.

MECHANICAL FACTORS
This Speed Triple has had but ONE owner! He provided us with an extensive service history on the bike which you are welcome to examine if you like. Notable is a major service costing $2,100 from a year and a half ago. Still, the techs in our Service Department gave this bike a very thorough exam themselves. Here are the points they wish to offer for your consideration:
• It starts and runs, yes, but it stumbles and stalls off idle transition.
• There is an abundance of surface rust on hardware and other components.
• The clutch cable rubs.
• It needs an oil change and a brake fluid flush.
• The tires, though they have a lot of tread left, are at least eleven years old. They should be replaced.
• The brake rotors have rust which would need to be thoroughly cleaned.
• We flushed the tank, refilled it with fresh fuel, and added a fuel treatment additive to clean and protect injectors.
• The bike does not pass Maryland Safety Inspection for numerous reasons.

COSMETIC FACTORS
• Stand back a few feet and this bike really doesn’t look bad! There is no actual significant damage anywhere, and the paint looks like, after a good deep cleaning and polish, it would gleam again like new.
• Zoom in a little, though, and you see the corrosion in many places. We found out that the reason is because the bike has spent most of its life near the ocean; three oceans to be precise: the Mediterranean in Italy, the Pacific in Washington State, and the Atlantic at Virginia Beach. Extended exposure to salt air = Rust.
• Aluminum doesn’t rust. However, salt air exposure affects it just the same. Not rust, but a dulling, almost chalky appearance. You can see that too.
• The seat shows some sun fading.
• There are also small scratches here and there around the bike, but as we mentioned, they are not significant.

SUMMARY
Again we’d like to recommend that you come in and see this PROJECT BIKE for yourself. If you’re a fan of Speed Triples, we suspect you just might see the vast potential — and VALUE! — that this bike holds. Perhaps you’ll be inspired to make things right again. But please, when you’ve completed the project, DON’T go near the ocean!
