This R1200RT was purchased new at Bob’s in November of 2006, and it has had just one owner until now. Its next owner will be taking it on as a PROJECT BIKE because its first owner, as you can clearly see from these photos, used his machine for its intended purpose: to be ridden and enjoyed! He rode it over 56,000 miles. The evidence of his “enjoyment” is everywhere on the bike — in the form of scratches, chips, and scrapes. Badges of experience! Importantly, though, the bike RUNS WELL and will surely deliver many thousands MORE miles of enjoyment — after it gets some needed maintenance, parts, tires, and some TLC. It is, of course, value-priced accordingly — and that’s what buyers love about our PROJECT BIKES. You get to decide how far you want to go with the work at hand, but when you’re done with that work, you’ve built a bike that will go as far as you want it to.
As with all PROJECT BIKES we want buyers to know as much as possible about the bike before making a purchase. We’ve nothing to hide and our only goal is that the new owner for each and every PROJECT BIKE feels they paid fairly and got a good, if not great value in the deal. We encourage people to call, schedule a time to meet with one of our sales advisors and inspect each machine in person so they fully understand all the positives as well as the potential downsides involved in the refurbishing process. Please take a moment to learn more about Bob’s PROJECT BIKE program and read our general disclaimer HERE.
Here’s our MECHANICAL assessment of this bike’s needs:
• New tires, front & rear
• New brake rotors and brake pads, front & rear
• New battery
• Bi-Annual Service (full fluid & filter change including brake fluid, tune-up and various adjustments)
NOTE: we have just installed a new Fuel Pump with associated gaskets and seals on this bike!
And the COSMETIC assessment:
• Lots of little scrapes and chips on the bike.
• A left side tip-over (in motion) resulted in fairly heavy scratches on valve cover protector, side case, lower fairing, and pegs.
• A static tip-over has caused visible damage on the right side, too, but it is minor.
In summary, the service issues are important, but not unusual or extremely costly. For instance, tires, battery, and brake parts are all items that every motorcycle needs to have replaced sooner or later. Needing to do it all at once will, unfortunately, take a bite, but it is predictable and worthwhile investment. Repairing its cosmetic issues, on the other hand, is completely discretionary. Do you want your bike to look really nice, or are you happy to just ride it? Hint: you could “fix” the most glaring issue in a minute simply by removing the valve cover protectors. Then you could take your time and touch up or buff out many of the other blems if you wanted to. But, as we mentioned above, these are YOUR choices, hence part of the value of a PROJECT BIKE.
