We were fooled! When we first examined this bike, with its age and fairly high miles, seeing that it had obviously been neglected for a long time, and that, in fact, it DIDN’T RUN, we naturally assumed we’d be offering it as a “Project Bike” — in other words, let an enthusiast who had some time and patience to invest take on the extensive rejuvenation work required. But then, one of our techs said, “Wait a minute, I think this bike might be worth a second look.” Well, to make a long story short, it turns out that our false first impressions led us to completely underestimate the quality and potential of this motorcycle. Now, lo and behold! Here stands a well-equipped, stunning and great-running Super-Sport Tourer with a whole new lease on life, priced to please, and poised to promise thousands and thousands of exciting miles ahead for the first lucky buyer to claim it.
This bike is more than just a looker in its handsome Indigo Blue & Alpine White colors; it’s also smooth, comfortable, and FAST. The liquid-cooled, 1157cc in-line four, DOHC power plant puts out an impressive 167 hp. It runs like a sport bike. But with excellent ergonomics, aerodynamics, and a host of other performance features, it’s also one that you can get on in the morning and ride till well past your bedtime.
In addition to the bike’s great handling, thanks to the BMW Duolever front suspension and BMW Paralever rear suspension, some of this bike’s other notable features include: ESA II (Electronic Suspension Adjustment), EVO Integral ABS, On-Board Computer, and Heated Grips. There’s bonus equipment included on this bike too: a spacious BMW Tank Bag and a pair of BMW Sports Panniers that are lightweight, lockable, easily removable, and best of all, expandable — tight and aerodynamic when packed minimally, or able to grow in capacity to meet larger cargo needs. So if you’re feeling like a sporting ride to a distant destination, this machine is the one you want. Everything you need is on it and ready to go today.
Those of you reading this who are, let’s say, “mechanically curious,” might be wondering what sort of voodoo we did to turn a neglected, not-running bike into such a stallion. Glad you asked. We did put quite a lot of work into the bike, though much of it was simply performing the normal service procedures that had been deferred for the years the bike sat not being ridden. The only relatively serious thing it needed (and the one that kept it from running) was a new fuel pump. In addition to that, we also replaced the rear wheel flange and installed a new timing chain tensioner, both of which brought the bike up to current BMW specifications. But there’s more. We wanted the next owner to begin their life with this machine on the best possible terms, so of course we did a full Bi-Annual Service which includes changing all engine & drivetrain oils and filters, flushing/replacing engine coolant, and replacing the brake fluid. Then we installed a NEW BATTERY, and two NEW TIRES, in this case, Metzeler M7 Sportec, as well as filling them with nitrogen for added longevity and performance. Finally, there were several fasteners on the bike that we thought were rusty beyond the superficial level. So we replaced over 30 fasteners with new ones, which really did a lot to renew the appearance of this motorcycle. A thorough safety check, extended test ride, and naturally, a Maryland State Inspection capped off the extensive service given to this bike. It now runs like a top. Better, actually, and its new owner can confidently head out for the horizon and beyond.
Our pro in-house detailer truly went the extra mile to convert what had been a dirty, dusty mess into the magnificent thing you see here. After top-to-bottom deep cleaning, it turned out that underneath the patina of age and neglect the bike was in remarkably good condition. While it’s not perfect (would you expect a bike that’s nearly 15 years old with nearly 60,000 miles to be perfect?) there‘s not a single major flaw or blemish. It doesn’t even look like it ever tipped over! This bike has had just one owner, a man we know well, who was for many years a regular and very well-liked customer. Before health issues unfortunately forced him into riding retirement several years ago, he loved this bike and rode it well. There is still a bit of remaining visual evidence of that “love” that could not be completely erased by the detailing, but it is only typical wear and entirely superficial. Look at the pictures carefully, or better yet, come in for an in-person inspection. You will be duly impressed by its spectacular cosmetic condition!
