THIS BIKE RUNS — it starts, idles, accelerates, rides, shifts and brakes as it should. All the lighting works, including the front strobe lights, the front aux lights and the dynamic brake light. It has a respectable service history, much of the work in recent years having been done at Bob’s. We’re selling it as a PROJECT BIKE because of its age, mileage, mediocre cosmetic condition, and one critical mechanical issue: the Integral ABS unit is intermittently failing and most likely needs to be replaced. It will not pass Maryland Safety Inspection in its present state.
The appearance of this PROJECT BIKE is really not too bad when you consider its age and mileage. From five or six feet away it makes a fairly good impression. Get in a little closer, though, and you’ll notice the signs of its experience a little more clearly. You’ll see a small paint chip on the tank along with some typical paint wear and other faded surfaces, tip-over scratches visible on the right-side crash bar and handguard extension, and corrosion on the header pipes and at the rear inside of the muffler. The bike served its last owner very well in utilitarian use, and I guess we could say it looks the part. Certainly, it’s well suited to continue as a workhorse for its next owner.
The air/oil-cooled R1200GS is a very solid, reliable machine with excellent performance characteristics. It’s one of the models that has made BMW Motorcycles rightfully famous worldwide. Additionally, THIS one comes well equipped with some nice extras:
