Roadster. Standard. Naked… by whatever name, it’s the most versatile motorcycle because it can become whatever you want it to be, either in the way you accessorize it, or simply by the way you ride it. A blank slate onto which you project your individual riding desires, the R1150R was the standard of the “Oilhead” era of boxer twins. Its air and oil-cooled engine is peppy, punchy, lightweight, reliable, and fun. It’s also simple enough that many of its maintenance needs are do-it-yourself. This bike is eminently capable in a wide variety of riding conditions — ride it to the grocery store or ride it to California — you’ll enjoy the trip no matter what.
This bike came to us in pretty good condition, but we went to work on it and now it’s a prize. Fully serviced and road tested, new tires, Maryland Inspected, detailed, and currently sitting in all its shiny Titan Silver glory on our showroom floor waiting to meet its devoted new owner. Stand six feet away and you would never guess this is a 15-year-old motorcycle. Get a little closer and you’ll notice a few traces of its previous life; just the inevitable results of typical use. The seat’s custom upholstery shows minor signs of wear. Evidently there was a minor mishap, probably a tip-over, that left small scratches on the left saddlebag, valve cover, and mirror. None of these are too serious; and nothing that would stop your heart from beating a little faster at the thought of getting out on the road to experience that sense of freedom that only a naked bike provides.
When you do go traveling you’ll appreciate the removable BMW System Side Cases that come with this bike. It also has the standard BMW heated grips. Other factory equipment includes: a luggage rack, four-way emergency flashers, a center stand (this was an option), and of course, BMW’s great Telelever (front) and Paralever (rear) suspension, chromed stainless steel muffler, and overdrive transmission. Earlier we mentioned the customized seat. This one, built on the stock pan, features a raised passenger portion which can also serve as a lower back support for the rider. Additionally, it was originally a heated seat, though that feature is no longer functioning. We decided not to unravel the mystery of why it didn’t work — perhaps that would be a project you’d choose to take on before next winter. Other than that, the bike is basically straight and stock. There are lots of accessories one could add to a bike like this. When that time comes, the Bob’s BMW parts & accessories experts stand ready to help you choose the right gear to enhance whatever type of riding you intend to do.
This bike’s service history indicates nothing out of the ordinary. That along with our rigorous 38 point inspection will assure you that no lurking mechanical demons are waiting to spoil your fun. And now that our BMW Master Technicians have just performed a bi-annual service, with all fluids changed, and everything tweaked and tuned to perfection, plus a set of new, nitrogen-filled Metzeler tires, this R1150R is prepared to take you down many pleasurable roads ahead with only pleasant surprises in store. It comes with two BMW keys, the owner’s manual and a complete factory tool kit in the pouch. Ready? GO Naked!
