Description
“NEW” ARRIVAL!
This bike rode its first lucky owner home from the dealership where it was purchased in the fall of 2002. That makes it almost TWENTY years old! Does it look like it? Clearly not. If you’ve been around BMWs for any length of time, you’ve learned that time and mileage don’t have quite the same effect on them compared to most other kinds of motorcycles. Though it might be categorized as nearly “Vintage” (25 years old is generally regarded as the mark at which one earns that distinction), this R1150RT, one of the venerable “Oil-head” models from a generation ago, can legitimately promise many more years of long, happy rides ahead for its next owner. Let’s get right to the pertinent points. This motorcycle passed Maryland Safety Inspection. (That, alone, is a significant bragging right for an older bike with this kind of mileage.) While it certainly has its share of small scratches, chips & dings, these little merit badges, along with some superficial scuffs and scrapes on the side cases, represent nothing more than the typical wear and tear of a life well-lived. Remarkably, there are NO significant cosmetic blemishes on this bike! This RT was lovingly ridden and truly well cared for by its previous owner. And it was in quite respectable condition when he brought to us in for trade. Naturally, our in-house, pro detailer went right to work on it. What happened then was miraculous. After an incredible job of meticulous cleaning and restoration of all the finishes, essentially erasing years off the bike’s appearance, the bike stands now on our showroom floor glistening in majesty. You’ll see for yourself. You would be impressed with it even if we told you it had HALF the mileage!
Mechanically there is absolutely nothing to cause you to worry. The previous owner brought it to Bob’s in the spring for a Bi-Annual service. That means that all its vital fluids — engine, drivetrain, and braking — were changed along with all other suitable checks and adjustments that go with a thorough service. Since that time, the machine was hardly ridden, and everything remains fresh. Nevertheless, our pro techs gave it a very critical examination before declaring it fit for its next life. They opted to give it a fresh tank of gas and a fuel treatment to chase away any gremlins that sometimes infect fuel systems when a bike sits for too long. Otherwise, everything else is at or above the necessary point to inspire complete confidence.
Some neat stuff comes with this bike. It has the extra-deep BMW System Case lids that greatly increase the capacity of each side case. It has a BMW 33 Liter Top Case with an added backrest to keep your passenger comfy. It has the famous Russell “Daylong” Saddle for both rider and passenger. This seat is generally thought to be the most comfortable motorcycle seat ever made. If you’re on one of those marathon long rides, you’ll also appreciate the Handlebar Set-Backs that put the handlebar in a more comfortable position, and the Talon Hawk Highway Peg mounts for a super relaxed forward leg position. There’s an RK accessory shelf above the dashboard big enough to mount several gadgets should you need them. It has a BMW Radio and Sound System. It is GPS prepped. You’ll find a ZTechnik V-Stream taller windscreen and an Aeroflow Headlight Protection cover. Mounting plates are already installed on the fairing (above the mirrors) for police lights or other auxiliary lights should you later decide to install them, and there is already the Hyper Lights LED tail/brake light enhancement installed to watch your back and Vision X fork-mounted driving lights to show the way forward. There is a quick-connect tank bag mounting device on the fuel filler cap which is a convenient way of using a tank bag that removes the worry of damaging the beautiful paint. There are other little things, too, such as BMW Valve Cover Protectors and various Accessory Socket & USB plug-in wiring installed. All in all, this touring machine is equipped and ready to go the distance!
This R1150RT comes with two keys, owner’s manuals, and original tool kit. Its price is, needless to say, an incentive of its own. This motorcycle is calling someone’s name, and we think you know who you are. Don’t wait too long to answer that call.
