These 1.2 liter inline four cylinder sport tourers from a past generation of dependable and sporty Beemer’s still turn heads. They also generate huge smiles from admirers and owners – especially the owners, since they usually are good for a few hundred thousand miles, and by those standards, this one is just past the official break-in period based on its miles and the care we know it got from its previous owner. This K1200RS has just been fully serviced here at Bob’s and it lacks for nothing mechanically. Looking at the cosmetic condition, we wouldn’t call the bike flawless or “like-new,” but its few cosmetic issues are not big ones. Even if you chose to ignore them your pride of ownership would most likely be undiminished.
Our BMW-Certified top technicians completed a full Inspection-I/30K/Bi-Annual Service to bring everything up to fully fresh standards for the next owner; there is nothing else to address until the next oil and filter change at 3,000 or 6,000 miles based on your preferences. It was also run through the strict Maryland State Safety Inspection and easily passed in all categories of safety equipment and general operation. New tires had been installed on the bike less than two years (approximately 750 miles) ago. Those tires still have 90 to 95% of their tread remaining and perfect sidewalls; they’ll be good until the next owner wears them out. Everything else works well – switches, lights, horns, adjustable windscreen, trip odometer and gauges in general, mirrors and adjustable comfort seat. All discs and pads are in good shape as well. This beauty starts, runs, idles, shifts, handles and stops wonderfully – in general it performs exactly as BMW designed it to and as the next owner you would want it to.
There is minor but visible (look at the photos closely please) parking lot or driveway tip over damage on both sides with some light touch up done by the previous owner well before it arrived at Bob’s. One needs to be close to the bike to really see it on the otherwise beautiful Orient Blue & Alpine White metallic original paint main panels. The right side saddlebag has a piece of reflective tape on it as it is also covering what would be the worst of the cosmetic damage to what is considered and accessory for the bike.
Take the bags off and it’s a non-issue. The inner half of this bag also has damage and has been crudely but neatly repaired or addressed with duct tape and not seen while the bag is installed. One could refinish the outer bag lid if looking for perfection or just add a matching piece of reflective tape to the left bag. There is no other cosmetic damage of note anywhere on the bike based on our inspection and we welcome your up-close review prior to a good demo or test ride.
The bike has some nice extras beyond the factory saddlebags and include these items: Bob’s BarBax handlebar risers, LED rear brake lights, small PIAA driving lamps with a separate switch, factory heated grips and the small factory package carrier. This bike is also supplied with a factory heated seat with the coiled cord but it is not original to this bike; there is no heated seat control switch or plug under the seat. You could have these items added if desired but this is not included in this offer.
Otherwise this is a very clean offering in factory original paint with moderately low miles and some nice extras. All rubber grips, pegs and other bit and pieces are in good order, the clear adjustable screen is in very good condition, the seat is in great shape and very comfortable, the exhaust system looks and sounds superb, the rear rack is clean. Our top Master BMW Tech took it out for an additional 14 mile extended test ride (it saw a 3.8 mile initial test ride at intake and evaluation) after completing all the work to confirm again that everything, including the ABS works well and that the machine is in solidly safe and roadworthy.
Supplied with 3 keys that fit the ignition, fork, seat, bags and gas cap, plus the original owner’s manual and small but useful factory tool kit, it is ready to enjoy. Financing for qualified buyers is available at very competitive rates and we welcome trades of any brand, model and year.
