Behold what is perhaps the cleanest K100RS we’ve had the privilege to offer for at least a decade. Some lucky K Bike enthusiast is about to have a very good day! This low-miles beauty has had just ONE OWNER since sold new on September 14, 1991, by Heritage BMW in Pennsylvania. As many collectors know, this magnificent K100RS represents that sweet spot in the evolution of each BMW model where they’re never better; when as the end of the model line is in sight — in this case the K1100 series was on the horizon — they have reached the pinnacle of their development. This is the German made, 1000 cc in-line four cylinder super Sport-Tourer, fondly nick-named the “flying brick,” that legions of BMW enthusiasts have loved for over thirty five years.
This stunning example arrived at Bob’s looking for the most part as cosmetically clean as what you see in these clear images. But it did have a few small needs, so we turned it over to our professional detailer who spent a full day giving it a thorough cleaning — outside as well as in all the areas you will probably never look. He gave the paint a thorough feeding, massaging and detailing, applying actual paint touch-up to a few very small areas (we will likely need to show you these in person), and in general, giving extra attention to all the rubber, vinyl and other materials used to build these solid and fun machines.
That level of care and additional investment is what we do here at Bob’s that so very few other dealers or shops consider; our goal is that the next owner is well prepared to see it remain in this state of fabulous condition for the next 30 years. And of course that’s just the part you can see in these exterior images. We’ve invested far more in other ways to take an original, very low mile but almost always on the road and ensure that it is solidly and dependably safe and roadworthy in all respects for that next owner. Of course we checked the market for other examples, their conditions and mileage as well as the seller’s asking prices so we knew we would be competitive (higher but with 500% more bike to offer) and offer a trustworthy, beautiful and comfortable machine like no one else was presenting to the enthusiast market.
This one arrived with a fresh battery but a non-starting situation. In 2018, after sitting for a few years due to the prior owner’s schedule, the fuel pump had died. It, along with most all other internals, were replaced in late 2018; all the parts were purchased from Bob’s BMW (we have the receipt) and the gas tank was cleaned and re-coated for good measure. It started up and was run occasionally at the time. But when it was time to sell it would not start, and that’s where the experts in the Bob’s service department took over. Our mission began with a diagnosis that identified lightly clogged fuel injectors – not terribly uncommon after tanks get re-coated. They were all removed, thoroughly cleaned and then tested for the correct fuel spray pattern and pressure and re-installed resulting in the bike starting right up and running superbly.
Our initial test ride by our top Certified Master BMW technician included checking every system on the bike including the ABS functions. Everything worked as designed. Then, the list of everything he felt should be performed to make this bike as safe and roadworthy as possible was completed. We went the extra step of adding some Motorrad Fuel System cleaner to a fresh tank of high test, replaced some old fuel lines at the manifold with new BMW crimp type clamps, we added two missing rear fender reflectors so it would pass the MSI, we replaced the rear master cylinder, hoses and clamps as it was leaking a bit, we removed a Luftmeister full exhaust system and installed the original OEM system which has virtually no miles on it, and we swapped out an aftermarket rear shock for the original OEM unit which again had virtually no miles on it and was sitting in the box. Our goal was to return this bike to its near perfect and totally stock appearance — as when it was new.
But we were not done spending our money to enhance the next owner’s value equation. Next, we performed a complete annual inspection, replacing all fluids and filters including the coolant and brake fluid, the fork (there are H/D springs installed already) and even servicing a one year old battery. We installed new Metzeler tires, front and rear with new BMW valve stems and filled them with Nitrogen for longer life and more time/miles between top-offs. We then took it out for another test ride to make extra sure everything works and works well. Over $4,000 has been invested in this bike recently to extend the best possible value opportunity on a bike that looks as perfect as any pre-owned BMW K100RS you’re likely to find.
Everything works and performs like a new bike. Switches are clean and smooth, all lighting functions perfectly and the horn is as loud as it ever was. The suspension is excellent, the exhaust note sweet, the handling and power are a bit better than when these bikes first left the factory and in general most non-BMW owners and many BMW enthusiasts would be hard pressed to accept the fact that it’s a 29 year young motorcycle. As these machines have demonstrated countless times over the last several decades, there should be a few hundred thousand miles of fun ahead if the next owner cares for it the right way. And this one boasts an exceptionally clean warranty history as only a set of brake pads was addressed way back in 1993 at 3,348 miles.
Please note that this bike also has some nice extras, hidden and visible. When that Luftmeister exhaust was installed an aftermarket performance chip was also installed; we left that chip in and the offering includes the original stock chip because we think it should stay with the machine. It has a set of near perfect BMW Touring or “Integral” cases/saddlebags which are key matched to the ignition. The saddlebag mounts, which at this age would be expected to show considerable wear, still look new. The keys also match the fork lock, gas cap and the seat, which is a period correct Corbin Dual canyon Sport model that was offered on the majority of BMW’s bikes in this time frame; it’s in excellent condition. This bike is also equipped with the 4 way emergency flashers plus the engine temperature gauge and a fuel gauge mounted in the fairing side panels. It has the factory paint matched belly pan, a near brand new and now rare, BMW Multivario tank bag specifically designed for the K100RS. The handsome black tank bag with the yellow trim has a clear map pocket on top, zip-in expansion section, and a full rain cover.
It is offered with everything you see in our images or read about in the text, plus 3 BMW keys, the original and perfect owner’s manual, the original warranty books and dealer directory, a super clean and 100% complete factory tool kit, a Clymer service and repair manual in superb condition, that OEM chip mentioned above, plus a complete BMW tire repair kit (now in a zip lock bag and not photographed) of which you can see the plug insert tool with the tool kit. We are confident that you cannot find a cosmetically cleaner, nicely accessorized, more fully serviced, better running and handling K100RS available anywhere else in this country.
