Our pro techs took this machine into their den of special tools, proprietary computer apps and connections, fluids and funnels of every description, and so on. They closed the door. Then they turned the music up loud. (They always do this.) But when they were done poking and prodding (and head-banging), they happily declared this machine to be 100% safe and roadworthy; everything as good as new! In their process they did decide to install NEW TIRES – Michelin Pilot Road 4 GTs. Nice! And replace all six spark plugs. Sweet! And added a new Battery Tender quick-connect harness to make your future routine battery maintenance a lot easier. Super! And they replaced a few blemished trim parts with new ones to help the bike retain its youthful innocence as much as possible.
It’s important to mention that the previous owner provided a well-documented service history for this machine that satisfied our curiosity about its past maintenance — which included a recent full service and fluid & filter change. With bikes that we have not sold and serviced ourselves, we especially appreciate having this info — and you will too. Finally, of course, we took the bike for an extended road test; Check! And then the rigorous Maryland Safety Inspection; Check! All good! The bike may look like it was forged from solid minerals, but it runs like pure lightning.
We should discuss some cosmetic issues in more detail. Okay, the bike looks fantastic! We can see that. But when you look a little closer — especially with an in-person examination — you’ll see a few other little bumps and bruises. Nothing too serious, but we know how you are: you want to know everything. So here it is: both floorboards show scratches on the outer edges (it turns out that floorboards are basically like little “curb-feelers” and are frequently the first thing to touch down when gravity gets the upper hand). There are some scuffs on the side case lids – one on the left side that is more noticeable than the others, there are scratches on the left-side rear protection bar, too, so we should perhaps assume there was a tip-over. Additional issues include scratches on the belly pan and a few other barely noticeable scratches and chips scattered elsewhere. Most of it is routine wear and tear, though a few marks stand out a little more. We can sit here and wish the previous owner was a little more careful with the outer appearance of his gorgeous bike, but then that could have meant that he wouldn’t have ridden it with quite as much joy.
Our in-house, pro detailer, who works magic with these bikes all the time, worked hard to present us with a spotlessly clean and awesomely polished bike to offer you. It may not quite rate as a TEN, but it’s not too far off. Maybe we’re being too picky. But take some consolation knowing that whatever it lacks in cosmetic perfection is reflected in the price which has been reduced accordingly. So, smile! It’s STILL a magnificent motorcycle that you will be proud to own.
