Description

We wouldn’t sell a PROJECT BIKE if we didn’t think it had a worthwhile future. In the case of this PROJECT BIKE, there’s no doubt about its future: it’s a bright one! This bike RUNS WELL and shows no obvious signs of any lurking mechanical gremlins, though it does have needs, specifically all the routine services, a new battery, and new tires. Cosmetically, while it naturally bears the evidence of its 22+ years and 80K miles, it looks remarkably good. And the bike has some special features, too, including ÖHLINS Suspension front & rear!  But here’s its most special feature: we KNOW the bike was well cared for because its one and only previous owner bought it new at Bob’s and had it faithfully serviced here throughout its entire life. (We have the bike’s complete service history which we will be glad to share with you upon request.) Moreover, its owner is a good friend of ours who was a regular and loyal customer for many years — and beyond that, for some of us he was considered a Riding Buddy. We know how the bike was treated; how it was loved. Then, our friend simply stopped riding in 2015, and in the years since, the bike just sat in the garage… waiting. This PROJECT BIKE certainly has the potential to be a strong daily rider for years to come, but first it will need someone to devote some time, talent, and elbow grease to its rejuvenation. It’s not that big a job. In fact, it’s relatively easy and straightforward work — and WORTH the effort. Will YOU be the one who steps up? If so, call 1-888-269-2627 NOW to speak with one of our BMW Certified Sales Advisors — Jim, Todd, or Kyle. Do it TODAY!

As with all PROJECT BIKES we want buyers to know as much as possible about the bike before making a purchase. We’ve nothing to hide and our only goal is that the new owner for each and every PROJECT BIKE feels they paid fairly and got a good, if not great value in the deal. We encourage people to call, schedule a time to meet with one of our sales advisors and inspect each machine in person so they fully understand all the positives as well as the potential downsides involved in the refurbishing process. Please take a moment to learn more about Bob’s PROJECT BIKE program and read our general disclaimer HERE.

The K1200RS is a powerful, 1.2 liter inline four-cylinder sport-tourer from a generation ago, but its timeless design will still turn heads. Beyond its good looking exterior, however, this model is also known for its “bulletproof” engine. As so many of them have accumulated a quarter-million miles or more, this one — based on its miles and the care we know it got from its previous owner — might be said to have barely reached adulthood. We mentioned the Öhlins Suspension on it, which is a BIG plus, but it has a couple other things to boast; there’s a Corbin Dual Canyon Sport seat on it which also includes a receptacle for installing an (optional) passenger backrest. The cover of this seat definitely shows wear – especially at the front where it meets the tank (visible in photos) — but is, of course repairable. Additionally, the bike has a Bob’s Wrist Rest passive throttle control with matching stainless-steel left-side bar-end weight, Heated Grips, the factory option High Handlebar, factory option wider Real Wheel, and two Powerlet auxiliary accessory sockets.

Again, here’s our MECHANICAL assessment of this PROJECT BIKE’s needs:
 • New tires, front & rear
 • New battery (The current one is functionally a goner. We had to jump the bike to get it started, then after we did, the bike ran fine.)
 • Bi-Annual Service (full fluid & filter change including brake fluid, tune-up and various adjustments) — with additional attention given to potential issues related to long-term disuse. But it should be noted that in our evaluation, we saw no warning signs of hidden troubles.

And the COSMETIC assessment:
 • Lots of tiny chips on the front facing painted surfaces, all typical result of normal highway riding; nothing severe.
 • A left side tip-over resulted in visible scratches on the lower fairing and the front-bottom corner of the engine valve cover.
 • As noted above, the Corbin Seat cover is worn and has a tear at the front edge facing the tank. Repair is certainly possible but, ultimately, a replacement cover may be a better solution.
 • Rear Shock damper adjuster plate is broken.
 • Surface rust is visible on miscellaneous bits of hardware throughout the bike.

In SUMMARY:
The service issues are important, but not unusual or extremely costly. For instance, replacing tires and battery, and performing thorough scheduled maintenance are, of course, what every motorcycle needs sooner or later. Though it is perhaps inconveniently costly to do it all at once, it’s a predictable and worthwhile expense, nonetheless. Repairing its cosmetic issues, on the other hand, is completely discretionary. Do you want your bike to look siper nice, or are you happy to just ride it? Truthfully, this bike looks quite good as is. You could take your time and touch up or buff out many of its age-related blems at your leisure, whenever the time and motivation is available. But this is entirely YOUR choice, hence part of the value of a PROJECT BIKE.

This motorcycle still has much life to live and pleasure to give. It’s a solid investment. It just needs YOU! Contact us now to learn more.
