The R1250GS is unquestionably the top-rated large displacement dual-sport motorcycle in the world. This bike has only 2,240 miles on it! That’s nothing. It’s essentially still new. It had its scheduled 600 mile “break-in” service performed at the same nearby BMW dealer where it was originally purchased. Subsequently, the previous owner did another oil & filter change in the spring of this year and very little further mileage was accumulated since. When the bike was brought to us, we did our usual pre-purchase evaluation which is a very thorough gauntlet of checks — every component and function, looking for any flaw, any part that may show excessive wear, any performance or safety issue that could possibly stand in the way of providing the next owner with the best possible experience. It turns out this bike needed almost nothing. We filled the tires with nitrogen to enhance their wear and longevity going forward, then test rode it to be sure everything functioned perfectly in a real-world riding environment (the “seat-of-the-pants” trial), and then put it through Maryland Safety Inspection for its state-sanctioned seal of approval.
Our full cosmetic evaluation revealed that there was some very minor evidence of a tip-over on its right side. (As we motorcyclists all know, gravity always has the last laugh!) This includes tiny scratches on the engine protection bar and bash plate, and very slight marks on the exhaust shield — exactly what those parts are meant for. But we’re nitpickers when it comes to cosmetics. When you spend some time looking at the photos, or better yet, inspecting the bike in person, you’ll come away totally impressed with its astounding condition. Perfect? Well, no — but almost. Honestly, you just can’t expect to find a pre-owned bike in better condition than this. And as its next owner, your prideful smile will reflect the glorious appearance of this motorcycle each time you gaze at it.
