Cycle World Magazine had this to say about the MT-07, “The MT-07 is a Universal Japanese Motorcycle in the best sense. It’s predictable and easy to ride, which makes it an ideal bike for an inexperienced rider, yet it’s viscerally engaging and competent enough to be a willing accomplice for even the most experienced rider. Without a doubt, the MT-07 belongs in the motorcyclist’s canon of beloved machines. It’s the rare bike that can be at once a trackday weapon or an anonymous commuter that gets 58 mpg.”
I don’t think we could add anything better than that to describe this obviously appealing naked bike, splendid in its “Yamaha Blue” paint and matching wheels, that has come to us in like-new condition with only 1,643 miles on it. Seriously, it still has that “new bike” smell. Some smart rider will see right away that this is a rare opportunity to kick off the riding season with some super exciting new wheels — at a super affordable price! Will it be you?
Cycle World wasn’t the only publication that raved about this bike. It’s a hit across the board. The specs don’t tell the story; you really have to ride it. But if it’s facts and figures you want, here are some to chew on:
• It’s a liquid-cooled 689cc parallel twin
• Yamaha claims it produces 74 hp @ 9,000 rpm, and …
• 50.2 lb.-ft. @ 6,500 rpm (MT, if you’re wondering, stands for “Master of Torque”)
• 6-Speed transmission / Chain drive
• ABS brakes front and rear!
• The Seat Height is 31.7 inches
• Fuel Capacity of 3.7 gallons
• The Wet Weight is just 403 lbs
The ergonomics are suited for a wide variety of rider sizes and postures. Yamaha tweaked the suspension in 2018, revising spring rates and valving front and rear, then adding rebound adjustability in the rear to go with the existing preload adjustability. The result is a perfect balance of suitability for day trippers and corner carvers alike. And as you can see, the bike’s styling strikes that same perfect balance between street-fighter aggression and commuting-to-work practicality. A bike like this could be your go-to ride for years to come.
