This story begins with a full disclosure on a great opportunity for one GS/GSA enthusiast to grab a great machine with a little travel and incident history in its very short life – thus far at least. It is offered well below the going rates for these desirable machines and this one is very well set-up, has very low original miles, was a one owner machine that, like many, started life at Bob’s BMW. Our goal is to always inform all potential buyers of any facts we know that can or should influence your buying decisions. We are confident that most everyone who looks at these images and reads these words will see a great value proposition.
This is NOT a PROJECT BIKE. It does not require the next owner to do any maintenance, repairs or cosmetic work when acquired. It just needs a new home and someone who wants to go out and ride it anywhere they desire. Of course, that new owner might want to add some additional accessories, and the staff here at Bob’s is more than able to help with the choices. This machine is near new looking and was simply involved in a road incident. Some call these situations accidents but we’ve been educated through our long history of working with, serving and servicing Authority bikes and Police officers to know the difference.
This bike was involved in a crash during a trip outside the US causing some minor to medium front end damage and a few exceptionally minor scratches elsewhere. Everything that was safety and operation related was expertly repaired after the bike returned home. In most all cases parts were replaced with new BMW items but a few select top quality used BMW parts were located and installed and in other areas some high quality aftermarket components were selected by the owner for what we feel were very good reasons. In some cases, the skilled owner who has been working on, servicing, repairing and modifying his motorcycles since he was a kid, did the work himself. In all others, it’s important to note, the final work was completed and thoroughly checked and tested here at Bob’s BMW. It’s why we feel confident if making it one of our ADVANTAGE CERTIFIED offerings.
We could spend considerable time and add countless words to this story to share everything that was done, but we feel the attached sixteen high quality images and a few additional lines on which items were replaced will give all prospective buyers enough information to then pick-up the phone and call one of our sales experts to schedule a time to personally visit and inspect this beautiful and perfectly running Adventure. Of course, we also encourage you to take it out for a good test ride. Nothing replaces a ride and your own experience to know you’ve selected a great machine being offered at below market rates.
The front end was basically completely replaced; a combination of new, used and aftermarket parts were used. The forks were almost NOS as another owner had upgraded theirs. A new EXCELL wheel was selected with machined brake disc carriers, a new BMW lower fork-bridge and new ball joints and axle were installed. New fork seals and plenty of other small bits were replaced as well. It has new front and rear brake pads and a new matching front tire. The front engine cover was replaced due to a small crack. Both of the BMW ESA or electronically adjustable shock units came from the owners 2017 with less than 1,000 miles as a simple upgrade that was not required but the parts were on hand and, of course, add further value to a great offering.
Every inch of this machine was thoroughly inspected for any possible signs of contact, damage, misalignment, etc., and any minor hardware, rubber parts, etc., were replaced as needed. It was taken out for a good test ride before we did our work and then treated to a 15-16 mile test ride following completion and before being inspected by a Maryland Safety Inspector and issues a passed certificate – this is one of the hardest, more complete safety inspections in this country and items that pass in DC, Pennsylvania and Virginia will fail in Maryland.
An inspection as close as ours will show some minor paint touch up on the frame, swingarm, and final drive, and some finish deterioration on the rear wheel specifically around the spokes. There is one tiny chip in a body panel which we and the prior owner opted to leave untouched. The windscreen looks brand new and there’s one teeny scratch on the headlight lens. The crash or cylinder head protection guards have a few very small scratches on them from standing-still light tip-overs, but are straight, solid and 100% functional.
Most of this was all a result of the road conditions in the several countries this bike traveled, including Estonia, Russia, Siberia, China, Hong Kong, Denmark, Iceland, Germany, the Faroe Islands, Czech Republic — all after the bike left Bob’s following its break-in service at 600 miles and another visit around 1,680 miles for some accessories to be installed, oil & filter change and fresh tires. During its time on the global adventure, it was regularly and expertly serviced by several authorized BMW dealerships; the receipts are on file at Bob’s and while they show the basic work performed, with dates and miles documented, they are also in other languages but we are 100% positive the work was performed up to the highest BMW standards.
It comes exactly as shown in the images. No bags or GPS unit are included. It was built in January of 2014 and delivered at Bob’s at the end of March 2014. It has all the factory options available at that time including: LED lighting, Ride Modes Pro, GPS Prep, Tire Pressure Monitoring or TPM, Led Auxiliary Lights, On Board Computer, the Touring Package, Heated Grips, Cruise Control, the 3-piece Adventure saddlebag Mounting set and the locking GPS cradle. Buyers should also note that the seats look like they’ve never been used and that’s because they basically have not. A set of custom seats were used for everything except the original ride home from Bob’s so these are in new condition. Two keys, the original owner’s manual plus the small but useful factory tool kit are included. It’s a great machine, offered at a great price – don’t wait too long.
