This bike is a great opportunity for someone to grab one of our most popular machines — a bike that combines all the pleasure of a sport bike with the comforts of a luxury tourer — and all the bells and whistles included! When the incredible K1600GT replaced BMW’s previous lux-tourers, the K1300GT, and before that the K1200GT, it leap frogged their technology, power, handling, and comfort by light years. The engine capacity increased in size dramatically, but perhaps of greater importance is that it went from a quick and dependable four cylinder to an ultra-smooth, super powered six cylinder while gaining little weight and actually becoming easier to handle – even at slow speeds in a parking lot. This bike, sold and always serviced at Bob’s, has had but a single owner who has superbly cared for this machine. He always rode it with a big grin too.
The 1,649 cc motor is capable of generating about 160 HP and 129 Ft-Lbs. of torque this beautiful do-it-all-in-comfort sport tourer can come mighty close to hitting the 145 MPH mark if the environment you are riding in can handle such an exhilarating and pleasurable thing. To really demonstrate your skills combined with the bike’s capability, we might suggest the race track is the only safe place. However, our writer, having ridden through all the western states like Idaho, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Nevada and New Mexico plus a good chunk of Western Canada, will tell you that plenty of people find long, clear, stretches of excellent road to see what they can do in the 3 to 5 miles ahead where they can see everything to stack the odds in their favor. If you’ve never owned a BMW before or never had one of BMW’s top-of-the-line machines you need to call us, stop by, check it out and then take it for a ride. You will not be disappointed, but you may become a believer and owner following that experience.
The K1600GT has a front fairing streamlined for smooth air penetration at all speeds and excels on the highway even more than it does on the sweeping, twisty, roller coaster secondary roads. It also has plenty of controllable fresh air behind the screen which is electronically adjustable for height and has manual side air vents to really pull in large levels of extra air on even the hottest of days. You’ll be riding in true comfort all the time. It has a 6-speed super smooth and quiet gearbox, 17 inch front and rear wheels with dual disk brakes up front and a single in the rear make stopping smooth, fast and controlled under all circumstances thanks to BMW’s ABS and other related technology like ESA II (Electronic Suspension Adjustment), DTC (Dynamic Traction Control), and an extremely bright Adaptive Headlight so you can see better than most where you and your machine are heading.
This BMW came from the factory fully loaded with heated seats and grips, TPM (Tire Pressure Monitor), on-board computer, electronic cruise control, along with other features incorporated into what BMW defines as their Safety package. It includes Bluetooth interface, the BMW audio system and radio software, GPS prep (location ready to accept any of the late BMW Nav kits), Duolever (front) and Paralever (rear) suspension components, factory tip-over guards, central locking and alarm system with remote control key fobs and BMW’s comfort package that allows both rider and passenger the most enjoyable ride ever under most any conditions.
It also comes with factory paint matched side cases with a set of BMW’s integral bag liners. Plus the previous and only owner also had us paint match and install a brand new large BMW trunk with passenger backrest pad, a beautiful set of folding highway pegs and the BMW Nav 4 GPS. The bike has always been garaged when not being ridden. The seat is amazingly comfortable and adjustable in height and coupled with the heated elements that offer a high and low range along with the adjustable heated grips, which also have two heat settings, colder mornings are something you can start to look forward to.
We just completed our full, and extensive 2 page evaluation, plus the Maryland Safety Inspection or MSI and then did a full Bi-Annual service which covers engine oil and filter, brake fluid front and rear, final drive fluid and coolant as well as covered our full 38 point safety inspection. Once all that was complete we did an extended test ride and checked all parts (ABS, ASC etc.) work and operate as designed. We also installed a new from Michelin Road Pilot GT to match the rear which was replaced here in August of 2016 and easily has 80% of the safe and sticky tread remaining.
We received a 100% clean bill of health from our master certified BMW technician so the next step this low mile K1600GT went to our detailer for a very thorough bath and detail. What came out was an almost new motorcycle but with 27,000 miles we can point out a few, very small scratches and other signs of normal wear and tear that you may not be able to see in these otherwise clear, sharp, large images.
Cosmetically the bike is almost a ten, so we think an honest 9.7 cosmetically and 9.9 mechanically are realistic numbers. Overall items like the seat, windscreen, gauges, controls, grips, hardware, exhaust, rubber will be found to be in superb condition with no noticeable environmental issues since it was garage kept when not ridden as mentioned earlier. The exhaust is still shiny like the day it was installed in Germany.
Finally, this bike is offered as one of the best examples and included in the exclusive Bob’s BMW Advantage Certified Motorcycle program This entitles the next owner to a 30 day major mechanical guarantee, free service loaner on their next service and special pricing opportunities on Zurich Tire and Wheel protection and or a Vehicle Service Plan. Included in the sale are 2 keys, the emergency plastic spare, two alarm/central locking key fobs, the factory tool kit and an original owner’s manual. This bike will not last long.
