We like to see bikes like this. It has been well maintained, thoroughly and thoughtfully accessorized, and best of all, RIDDEN! With 115,000 miles on the clock, it’s obviously not going to glimmer like some of those barely ridden pre-owned bikes we also offer. But this bike will put a glimmer in the eye of any smart buyer who knows Quality and Value when they see it. This R1200GS Adventure has only BEGUN to experience the adventures that still lie ahead. As it stands, it’s proudly ready and perfectly equipped to propel you to any far-flung place you can dream of. And you’ll go with ALL of the confidence yet LESS THAN HALF the expense of doing so on a newer machine!
To say this bike is LOADED would be an understatement. Here are some of the standard features and factory options that came on the bike when it was built: Rock-steady & reliable 110 HP, air/oil-cooled Boxer twin engine, BMW Telelever front and Paralever rear suspension, Enduro Transmission, Engine/tank/body tubular protection frame, huge 8.7 gallon Fuel Tank, On Board Computer, ESA II (Electronic Suspension Adjustment), Integral ABS II, LED Auxiliary Driving Lights, Adjustable Windshield, Heated Grips, LED turn signals with clear lenses, and Mounting Brackets for Aluminum Adventure Side Cases.
And here is what the previous owner ADDED on top of all that: Öhlins shocks front & rear, BMW alloy valve cover protection plates, a super comfortable Touratech seat, Garmin 595 GPS, AltRider large rear luggage rack plus auxiliary forward rack (provides even more cargo space where the passenger seat would normally be), Fenda Extenda front fender splash extension, Wunderlich retractable lift handle, and Auxiliary LED brake/tail lights. There could be more but those are the main things. You get the idea; you might want to consider adding some luggage (and of course we can help you with that), but otherwise you’re ready for any adventure anywhere.
The bike was sent through our standard service regimen: checked top to bottom for any performance or safety defects. The rear brake rotor and pads were worn out, so we replaced them with new ones. It needed fresh tires, so we installed new Metzeler Tourance tires front & rear. There is one other significant procedure we performed: a complete rebuild of both the Öhlins shocks. This is an essential service procedure that all Öhlins suspension components should undergo periodically, but it’s frequently ignored. These shocks will now perform as good as new — and that’s a tremendous asset! Of course, we took the bike for an extended road test to be absolutely sure all components and functions were operating as intended – which they were. And finally it went through the rigorous Maryland State Inspection process to assure that every aspect of this motorcycle was not only safe but in legal compliance too. This machine is an excellent running bike. Despite its years and miles, it sounds, feels, handles, shifts, stops and starts just as it should. You would think it’s a much younger motorcycle.
A few words about the cosmetics: We feel that a bike of this age and experience should be presented in its most realistic light, warts and all, so to speak. So you’re going to see scratches, scuffs, and dings, a little bit of rust here and there, along with other signs of a life well lived. And you won’t have to look hard to find ‘em, either. Most all of it, though, is simply typical wear and tear; that’s just how it is. And we felt it would be almost disrespectful to try to cover any of that up. While we normally detail our pre-owned bikes to perfection before they hit the showroom floor, in this case we didn’t. We only washed it. We have faith that the buyer who is interested in this gem will be looking for FUNCTION. And VALUE. That buyer will recognize THIS bike as one that not only offers those in abundance, but can easily venture on for another 115,000 miles without skipping a beat.
