2005 was the first year for the R1200GS, and it launched a whole new era for the indomitable BMW Boxer Twin engine. The larger, more powerful motor was paired with BMW’s famous Telelever front- and Paralever rear-suspension, Integral ABS brakes, along with a host of other design and technical upgrades to, yet again, set the world standard for rugged, go-anywhere, big-bore Dual Sport motorcycles. This veteran stands as proof of concept: that an ingeniously designed, built-tough machine can still be as durable, desirable, and deliciously satisfying to ride today as it was the day it rolled off the assembly line in Germany. BMWs like this one don’t just survive, they continue to thrive — and will for a long time to come.

In our Service Department nothing was spared to make this bike ready for a trouble-free new life with its next owner, starting with a top-to-bottom safety check. Then: Inspection I + Bi-Annual Maintenance, in which we changed engine oil & filter, front & rear brake fluid, transmission and final drive fluids; we check/adjust the valves and synch the throttle bodies. We installed NEW TIRES (Metzeler Tourance), also new Rear Brake Rotor and brake pads. Note: there is also an infinitely renewable, high performance K&N Air Filter installed in this motorcycle. Following all the service and an extended test ride, the bike got (and passed) the rigorous Maryland State Safety Inspection. Mechanically, it’s in TIP-TOP shape.
Let’s talk about how miracle make-overs can happen. When we were getting ready to prep this R1200GS for sale our expectations based on an initial look were, frankly, no higher than average: we thought it would simply be a decent looking offering in the end. BUT, after our in-house detailer finished with it… WOW! We were lit up by how good it turned out. That guy (no, his name is not Svengali, though it probably should be) does some kind of voodoo alchemy — we don’t know how — but he takes bikes with some mileage under their belts, that maybe look a little rough around the edges, and makes them look practically NEW again! If you get up close enough (be sure to clean your glasses first) you may see a few signs of its previous life: the usual stuff like some minor tip-over nicks, a little heat-patina on the exhaust pipes, a tiny chip or a scratch or two here and there — and full disclosure here, there is a very slight ding on the right side of the tank — but c’mon, a GS is made to conquer the world on any type of road or non-road, and this one’s fifteen years old with over 50K miles on it. Do you think it could possibly look BETTER than this? We don’t. And if it did, you’d be suspicious, right? Seriously, this machine looks truly wonderful. And when it’s yours you’ll be damn proud of it!
This motorcycle comes with three keys plus a bunch of luggage keys, the original BMW owner’s books, and as you see in the photos, a hella huge Tool Kit. If you want to grab this bike before it gets away, you’d better HURRY.
