Description

Do you enjoy working on bikes? Are you lucky enough to have the time, talent, and tools to do your own motorcycle maintenance? Then a PROJECT BIKE like this 2004 Honda Shadow 750 may be just the thing for you. The benefits are obvious: you invest your skills and sweat equity in exchange for a great LOW price on a bike with lots of potential — either as something to fix up and ride yourself for years to come, something to sell for a net profit after the work is complete, or simply to have a rolling collection of spare parts if you happen to already have another of the same model. A PROJECT BIKE is a great VALUE no matter what.

This Honda Shadow 750 suffers from the leading cause of motorcycle disease: NEGLECT. It simply sat parked for too long and the proper storage precautions were never taken. Sad. But we see potential here. Our preliminary exam tells us that there is nothing wrong with this bike that can’t be fixed. It will ride again! Read on to learn more.

As with all PROJECT BIKES we want buyers to know as much as possible about the bike before making a purchase. We’ve nothing to hide and our only goal is that the new owner for each and every PROJECT BIKE feels they paid fairly and got a good, if not great value in the deal. We encourage people to call, schedule a time to meet with one of our sales advisors and inspect each machine in person so they fully understand all the positives as well as the potential downsides involved in the refurbishing process. We’re proud to have sold well over a hundred PROJECT BIKES since beginning the program some years ago. Our aim with these bikes — indeed, with all the bikes we sell — is exceptional customer satisfaction. By that measure, our PROJECT BIKES have proven to be an overwhelming success. We’ve even taken a few of them back in trade as good used bikes after their owners finished doing all the work and then enjoyed riding the bikes for a number of years.

Please take a moment to learn more about Bob’s PROJECT BIKE program and read our general disclaimer here:  http://www.bobsbmw.com/new-motorcycles/project-bikes/.

This Honda Shadow starts and runs. When it first arrived we were only able to start it when jumped to a power supply because its battery was completely dead. But we have installed a NEW BATTERY along with a new Battery Tender quick-connect harness to make battery maintenance in the future much easier. Thus, the first obstacle on the way to giving this bike a new life has been solved for you. Most of the other maintenance it will need is fairly basic stuff. You will want to do a full carburetor cleaning & rebuild, a fuel system flush, a complete fluid & filter change, and probably a general tune-up. It would be reasonable to expect to find other small gremlins, worn out parts, and especially rubber parts that have deteriorated. Those who restore older bikes as a hobby (and we know a lot of you are out there!) recognize these as routine problems associated with UN-used motorcycles. it’s all part of the job. And new tires? Of course. These tires still have usable tread, but they date to 2003 and so are hard and cracked. Replace them!

On the cosmetics front, the Honda Shadow has a LOT of chrome, which is great when it looks nice and shiny, but on this bike you’ll notice quite a lot of surface rust. If you want the bike to be pretty again, you’ll need to remove that corrosion and that means there will be extensive polishing required. There will undoubtedly some pitting left behind in certain places. The paint overall is not bad but there are a couple of small paint scratches on the gas tank. The good news is that we saw no evidence that this bike was ever in a crash, and nothing else to suggest the likelihood of any serious, hidden mechanical issues. Like we said before, this bike will ride again!

This Honda came to us with some nice accessories: an extra tall touring windshield, a passenger backrest, a handlebar-mounted helmet lock (key included), and a big pair of leather-like saddlebags. A clasp on one of the saddlebags is broken, but the parts are still there (inside the bag) and can possibly be repaired. There is also a small front storage bag, highway pegs, auxiliary running light, and an engine protection bar. Finally, there is a J&M CB radio, however the antenna is broken or somehow not functioning.

That’s about it. it’s a PROJECT BIKE, and obviously that means you will need to devote some of your evening and weekend hours to bringing it back to its full potential. But when you do, you have a very nice Classic Cruiser to ride, and the satisfaction of knowing you made it happen with your own two hands.
