2004 BMW K1200GT Project Bike

Call for Price

Color: Piedmont Red
Miles: 20,806
Stock Number: K02007 Category:

This is a stunning, low mile, well equipped, two-owner PROJECT BIKE with almost perfect cosmetics that is in need of a next owner who has the time (some evenings or weekends), inclination, desire and middle level talent plus basic tools to make it fully operational, safe and roadworthy again. We have plenty of work right now but if it does not find a home before the next opening for such a job we might just turn it into a fully warranted Bob’s Used BMW. It was sold new here at Bob’s and then 5 years later we took it in trade, fully serviced it and resold it to the last owner back in the fall of 2009. He was just not riding it very much and it arrived with the “can’t engage and a limp clutch lever” description and no interest in re-investing in the bike as he was only going to sell it.

As with all PROJECT BIKES we want the buyer to know as much as possible so we encourage any potential buyer to ask questions. We’ve nothing to hide and our only goal is that the new owner for each and every PROJECT BIKE we offer feels they paid fairly and received good, if not great value in the transaction. We have a disclaimer about our PROJECT BIKES that’s easily found on the Bob’s website. We encourage people to call, schedule a time to visit, meet with one of our sales advisors and inspect each machine in person so they can see, hear and know all the positives and any negatives involved in the refurbishing process with full clarity.

You can read more about Bob’s PROJECT BIKES here on our website at: http://www.bobsbmw.com/new-motorcycles/project-bikes/. Over the years, we’ve sold well in excess of a hundred PROJECT BIKES, a number that has risen sharply this year and every single client except one was exceptionally pleased with their acquisition from the very start.  That each customer is exceptionally pleased is our goal, just as it is with our exclusive ADVANTAGE CERTIFIED pre-owned used BMW motorcycle program and for that matter the results of someone being assisted in selecting and buying a new BMW here at Bob’s. And for the record we did make that lone individual happy in the end despite some unrealistic expectations after an onsite, in person extensive inspection, review and conversation before buying it.

When built new this PROJECT BIKE came with a full array of goodies like tele-lever and para-lever suspension, heated grips, heated comfort design seat, 4-way emergency flashers, ABS, electric windscreen, electronic cruise control, a powerful inline fuel injected four cylinder cranking out gobs of power and torque, a smooth six speed gearbox, multi-spoke cast alloy wheels, luggage rack, adjustable handlebars, side air spoilers and some other stuff we’ve not listed. This one also has color-matched factory sport touring saddlebags key matched to the bike plus a set of Suburban Machine bar risers. It did not come to us with more than one key, the owner’s manuals or tool kit but we could get those items for you if you desire to take this one home and make it fully complete, they’re not costly items.

This PROJECT BIKE is not without a few small cosmetic blemishes but they are truly very minor: a small nick on the upper right edge  of the hand guard, a small nick/tear/whatever on the forward edge of the seat where it meets the tank, three very small specks sized nicks in the right bag lid, one on the front fender that’s so small we could not photograph it and one on the lower right edge of the belly pan. Most viewers would see this bike at about 5-6 feet and say it’s perfect and overall the paint shines brightly and this PROJECT BIKE shows no signs of being stored outside when not used so as a result rubber, hardware, switches and all the stuff that can be badly aged out are not.

But it’s a PROJECT BIKE for a reason so here goes: it starts and runs just fine after we installed a brand new BMW battery (it came in with one that was barely holding a charge), it may need a full clutch job and by full we mean replacing the rear main seal, all the plates and springs, a slave cylinder, etc. because when we do an estimate it’s going to cover a worst case scenario. The only way to know for sure what it will take to ride again under full power is to open it up and inspect what failed.  We believe that based on the prior services the bike saw here at Bob’s since around 2011 it’s due for an annual service. It also needs a front tire, rear brake pads and a fresh set of grips or grip covers.

The rear tire on this PROJECT BIKE is from the 21st week of 2016 and has 95% of its tread remaining and that was installed here. And as long as one is addressing rubber stuff we think some fresh foot peg covers would be a smart and low cost addition. Everything that can be bench tested has checked out 100%; we just can’t inspect the ABS because we can’t ride it but we don’t think there’s an issue here based on the machines history at Bob’s. This is sure to make someone with some time, tools and a nice discount here in the Bob’s BMW parts department for any items purchased to have it back on the road over the winter or certainly before spring a very happy third owner. We think it’s attractively priced, allowing for plenty of sweat equity to be earned and we’re ready to roll it into your truck or trailer for the ride home. Call us up and stop in soon.
