WOW would be the single correct word to use to describe this beauty if we were limited to just one word! Thankfully we are not and we just don’t get the opportunity to offer such beautiful machines that are fast approaching their 20th anniversary (hard to believe isn’t it?) that look this perfect (because it is), have such amazingly low original miles (documented), have been in the care of just one owner since sold new, was delivered right here at Bob’s BMW in June of 1999 and has been cared for all along and then fully serviced (recently and just prior to being offered) so it’s truly is a turnkey, head turning, nicely equipped machine with the benefit of being suitable for all levels of riding or travel from casual, commuting, to simply enjoying the local backroads on a beautiful weekend or crossing the country in style this fall or perhaps next spring.
Perhaps you’d like to meet up with Bob (and thousands of other BMW owners and riders) next June in Lebanon, Tennessee during the BMWMOA National Rally and then head west for your own adventures? He’s got some great places he could suggest to ride, explore, stay and dine depending your direction and available time – he’s crossed this country three times in the last ten years and has been on some great roads, explored some fantastic places, stayed in some interesting motels and hotels and dined at a lot of great places with their own stories. And he will encourage you to create your own stories too.
But back to this BMW being offered. Occasionally we’re surprised when Bob doesn’t raise his hand and say “this one’s headed to the museum” and since he does not have any standard R1100 or R1150’s on display in the vast and ever growing collection this would sure be one to grab. But it’s up for sale and we think someone should call, stop by, check it out, take it for a demo ride and make it theirs before he reconsiders his decision; he’s been known to change his mind in the past when he walks past a bike for a few days or a week. And it happens to be parked on the sales floor where he can’t miss it on his way to just about everywhere and of all the standard bikes that are consider oil heads this is one of the most special in our collective opinion.
But as to why you should ask fast, consider all these facts: Bob’s top techs just spend $1,500 of Bob’s money doing everything to make it run wonderfully and bring all services up to date. The tires were installed at the original owners last service in 2015 when the bike had 4,744 miles so while they are technically 4 years old since manufactured by Michelin they have 99.9% of their safe and sticky tread remaining as they’ve only been used for 196 miles (including our extended service test rides plus a few pleasure rides) and are in perfect condition, sidewalls included. Back in 2015 we performed a complete Inspection 1, 6K plus Annual service. And just before writing this up for the website the Bob’s service team did a full bi-Annual service, freshened up many of the fuel delivery items inside and out of the tank, installed a new gas cap O-ring (they do age out), drained out some older fuel and added a full tank of fresh high test plus BMW fuel injector system cleaner for good measure, replaced the spark plugs, topped off the Nitrogen in the tires, installed a new BMW battery and even replaced the fork leg reflectors.
Of course we have already run it through our extensive 2 page internal EVALUATION to identify any needs and then ran it through the Maryland Safety Inspection process before pronouncing it 100% safe and roadworthy. This is a non-ABS model so while it does not have that added feature it also does not have that additional service concern or maintenance cost down the road. It starts, idles, shifts, rolls, handles, accelerates and stops nearly like a brand new BMW. It looks nearly as perfect. There are a few tiny blemishes that one can find if they look very close and we’ll tell you right now that the right side valve cover has a small scratch right above the BMW cylinder head protector. Even the original BMW ID sticker on the head stock is in perfect condition – these frequently failed long ago. Good luck finding anything else of note.
Every part of this bike is in spectacular cosmetic and mechanical condition. The wheels, frame, fork legs, handlebars, instrumentation, headlight, switches and controls, upholstery, exhaust system, rubber parts and paint are in extraordinary condition and with under 5,000 original miles one should seriously understand that this bike is really not fully broken in by BMW’s standards. When it was new, along with the R1100RS and R1100RT and the R1100S we typically instructed customers that break-in could take as long as 10,000 miles until everything was considered fully settled in. The next proud owner will get to pick up where the first and only owner it’s had until now left off. An enjoyable process of fun riding is ahead for whomever takes this one home as it’ as close to new as a 20 years machine ever gets.
It comes with BMW saddlebag mounts, key matched easily removable BMW system saddlebags with the optional scuff protectors, a very rare set of early black Kathy’s saddlebag liners complete with the optional (free back then) BMW 3” patches which are long since NLA and undoubtedly worth more than a new set w/o the famous roundel, the optional BMW luggage rack, adjustable height riders seat, the hard to find BMW Multi-Vario tank bag with removable map compartment (sorry no full weather cover) which still fits nice and snuggly, an exclusive Bob’s Wrist Rest cruise control set in stainless steel, a Bob’s alloy side stand enlarger pad and the BMW touring windscreen which is easily removed when you desire that naked standard bike look when it’s warmer than you’d prefer.
This one even comes with the BMW R1100GS style black hand protectors which can also be easily removed when the weather calls for that change, a discrete but highly visible when activated set of P3 rear LED brake lights. Plus it’s wired to use the stock BMW turn signals as running lights for added visibility at all times. It also comes with the original owner’s manual, the standard tool kit and 4 BMW keys. The only other BMW you could buy in this price range that would offer so much would be a new G310R and while it’s a fabulous machine and selling very well here at Bob’s BMW it is not a Special 2-Tone Black and Silver Paint edition, nicely equipped and soon to be classic R1100R. Treat yourself to the very best before someone else does!
