The basic KLR650 is an established icon of dual-sport motorcycles, having been in production since 1987! Its engine is a liquid-cooled, four-valve, 652cc DOHC single-cylinder that’s as tried and true as any engine out there. It has always been a successful model and very popular with riders who like their bikes to be as affordable as they are reliable. There has been some evolution over the years, of course. And for 2022, the Adventure version got a generous dose of SWEET UPGRADES:
• Digital fuel injection with a 40mm throttle body
• Revised intake and exhaust cams to boost midrange torque
• Increased generator capacity helps power accessories
• Improved and firmer suspension settings
• Chassis geometry improvements for more stable handling (30mm-longer swingarm and rake increase of 2 degrees)
• Revised brakes include off-road-tuned ABS and a 20mm-larger 300mm front disc
• New LCD dash includes a fuel gauge
• New LED headlight
• Revised bodywork, wider mirrors, a wider rubber-mounted handlebar, and a taller and more protective windscreen

The one and only previous owner claims that the bike was ridden on paved roads only — never off-road — and in our careful examination of this bike, we found no evidence to contradict his claim. In fact, further upgrades were made by the owner to enhance the ease and comfort of highway riding. Those include the addition of extended handlebar risers, a throttle locking device (passive “cruise control”), an accessory mounting ball for things such as GPS, a quick-connect battery charging harness, and most importantly, changing to a 16-tooth front sprocket which lowers the effective RPM range for more relaxed highway riding.
Our Service team performed a full safety and diagnostic checkup on this bike and found no issues. But they did decide that it should get NEW TIRES, so they installed fresh Michelin Anakee 3 tires, front and rear. Then, of course, they changed the engine oil and filter too. The bike’s previous maintenance included the scheduled 600-mile initial service done at a Kawasaki dealership and a subsequent oil change performed by the owner. Now, having been rigorously test ridden by our techs, then passing Maryland Safety Inspection, this machine stands ready to deliver the completely reliable performance your adventuresome heart desires.
Don’t worry about cosmetic flaws or blemishes. Beyond a couple of superficial boot scuffs on the side cases and some typical exhaust system patina, you can barely see ANY evidence of the bike’s previous life.
