When the designers at Ducati apply their inimitable Italian flair to a project, the results are always unique, remarkable, and SEXY. You might never have thought a dual-sport motorcycle would be a place you’d find temptingly sensual curves, but just lay your eyes on this beautiful bright red knockout and you’ll be convinced. But wait. RIDE it and discover that the torquey 1198cc Testastretta DVT (Desmodromic Variable Timing) L-Twin motor pulsing to the rhythm of 160 horsepower beneath you is equally convincing; it’s not just the looks — it’s the power and performance that make this machine the truly sexy beast it is. Go ahead and swoon. You’ll want to let this bike take you away to places you never knew existed.
Along the way, you’ll also enjoy its many great features. It’s got the versatility of selectable Ride Modes, the safety and confidence of ABS with Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) developed by Bosch technicians, which dynamically measures roll and pitch angles as well as the acceleration on three axis to greatly enhance braking stability while cornering, the specialized ergonomics designed in for comfort and control, the DSS (Ducati Skyhook Suspension) which continuously and automatically adjusts damping to match road conditions, Dynamic Traction Control, and many other technical wonders. That’s not to mention the creature comfort necessities like Heated Grips, Electronic Cruise Control, and included Ducati color-matched side cases to give you the convenient space to pack for however long a trip you want.
While you’re gazing at this motorcycle to once again admire its curvaceous appeal, just for a moment try to keep your mind on the business of its cosmetic condition. After all, if you’re going to invest wisely in this machine you need to be aware of its every flaw. Ready? There aren’t any. That was easy, right? OK, to be honest, there were a couple very minor issues when we first received this bike but we replaced or repainted those parts as needed. Then, of course, our detailer went to work cleaning and polishing the rest of it. The result is a bike that absolutely no one would think isn’t brand new.
Mechanically, this machine is just as spectacular. It’s only got 6,754 miles on it — it’s barely getting warmed up. It’s got fresh rubber. The previous owner replaced the rear tire just 250 miles before he brought it to us for trade. Then we put a new, matching front tire on it and filled both with Nitrogen to enhance their performance and wear characteristics. We gave it an engine oil & filter change, a complete chain service, and also replaced a couple of worn parts. But there is one remaining issue we want to report: one of the hang tabs on the left saddlebag is broken. However, our techs checked it out and inform us that the bag still mounts and hangs very securely on its bracket despite the broken tab. If you’re planning to transport anvils, this may be something to worry about. If not, though, ride on without concern. Naturally, we gave it a top-to-bottom safety and performance check and then confirmed its excellent condition with an extended test ride. Finally, it passed the Maryland State Inspection to certify the bike is, officially, READY to RIDE!
