Description

Well it’s finally happened. We have a pretty clean but not spotless (81.5 out of 100), two owner K1600GTL, that while not up to our usual very high standards for a bike of this vintage and model, passed the tough Maryland Safety Inspection and is ready to ride TODAY.  Yes, we’ve classified it as a PROJECT BIKE for a small number of reasons. We always suggest that any potential buyer read those details on our website so there are no surprises, but we think this machine is a steal. And we’re confident that once this PROJECT BIKE is fully detailed it might end up as a 92 to 95 on that critical 100 scale Bob created.

As with all PROJECT BIKES we want the buyer to know as much as possible so we urge anyone interested to ask questions if anything is not clear. We’ve nothing to hide and our only goal is that the new owner for each and every PROJECT BIKE we offer feels they paid fairly and got good, if not great value in the deal. We have a disclaimer about our PROJECT BIKES easily found on the Bob’s website. We encourage people to call, schedule a time to visit, meet with one of our sales advisors and inspect each machine in person so they know all the positives and any negatives involved in the refurbishing process with full clarity.

This PROJECT BIKE starts, idles, shifts, handles, stops and does everything you’d expect from a luxury tourer built by the best motorcycle manufacturer in the world. It is a fully loaded example with the adaptive headlight, Bluetooth interface, radio software, central locking, the BMW comfort package (heated grips, seats, electric screen, etc.), LED fog lights, dynamic traction control, electronic suspension adjustment, the safety package which includes the industries best ABS system, tire pressure monitoring and what BMW considers the high seat. There are a zillion other standard features that a GTL comes with from the factory in Berlin.

This PROJECT BIKE also has some nice extra included, already installed like a Wunderlich top case luggage rack, optional third brake light (this became standard later on), Turborock windscreen (really good looking with very fine air flow and an adjustable vent), adjustable ILIUM Works highway pegs, extra coverage crash guards and a set of aftermarket handlebar risers for an even nicer riding position.  It also has the original small BMW tool set, the factory owner’s manual, one alarm fob and two keys.

By now you’re probably wondering why it’s a PROJECT BIKE right? We, as in one of our Master Techs and the last owner who put the majority of miles identified a slight noise coming from the driveline area mostly upon deceleration. Our best guess without diving in and spending another 2-4 hours on diagnostic time (that we really don’t have right now) is that a coil is going bad and a cylinder is dropping out. And that probably explains the noise and slight vibration we have identified. Yes we have also noticed during our 16 mile extended test ride that there’s a little lack of performance under full load or when rolling on the throttle hard but it goes down the road very well otherwise and because it’s a 1,600 inline 6 cylinder it has a lot of power remaining.

There is some oil residue underneath on this bike but the machine does not appear to be using or actually leaking oil and lots of machines, especially with this level of miles have some oil residue underneath and unless one is meticulous about cleaning underneath your bike or car that’s where you’ll frequently see some oil residue.

We should also mention that at 73,333 miles and in June of this year this PROJECT BIKE received a complete annual service including the final drive along with a fresh set of Michelin Road Pilot tires – that’s just three months and under 1,000 miles – at an authorized BMW dealer in this region. We haven’t even given it a decent wash, let alone a complete detailing, because it’s a PROJECT BIKE and in accordance with its value price, we leave stuff for the next owner to accomplish. Call and make an appointment, inspect it closely in person, take it for a ride, give it some serious consideration. We can find that is in comparable condition with similar miles and cosmetics and it’s literally HALF the price of many other 2013 K1600GTLs in the market!
