Up for sale is a super low mileage, barely ridden, BMW F700GS in Glacier Silver Metallic. With less than 1,000 miles on the clock since it was purchased new from Bob’s in the summer of 2013, this GS has spent most of its life parked safely in a garage connected to a battery tender. Sadly, the previous owner, despite his best intentions, just didn’t have time to ride it. The bike was built with BMW’s Low Suspension package for this customer and we did the installation of the accessories prior to delivering the bike to him. We saw the bike again a year after purchase for its 600 mile break-in service. Now it has returned to us because the previous owner decided it was time to turn this fantastic machine over to someone who has the time to put on the miles and have some fun with it.
As stated this is a single owner bike with only 972 miles on the clock since new. Bob’s BMW’s master certified technicians received and prepped the bike for sale in 2013 and installed the heavy duty Altrider skid plate, hand guards, larger windscreen for more wind protection, and Altrider engine guards. We also had a standard F700GS center-stand shortened and modified to work with the factory low suspension, an option that is not available from BMW. BMW’s low suspension package comes with the low seat as well as the shorter suspension. The two make a drastic difference in the riding height of the bike. If you are looking for a dual sport / adventure motorcycle or even just a fantastic commuter and travel bike, but have hesitated because of how tall BMW’s normally are, this may be the right bike for you. The bike also comes with heated grips, on board computer, saddle bag mounts, TPM (tire pressure monitors), ASC (Automatic stability control) and BMW’s state of the art ABS which can be disengaged if desired when riding off-road. Overall this is a very nicely equipped and set-up F700GS.
The well-proven parallel twin cylinder engine is liquid cooled and has four valves per cylinder for maximum efficiency and power. Capable of producing 85 hp at 7,500 RPM’s and 83 NM of torque (that’s a lot of torque). Double disk brakes in the front and a single disk in the rear with ABS. Lightweight, very comfortable and agile, the 700 series GS’s are known to be used as great urban city commuters but also can be loaded up and set up for travel, off-road use and pretty much any adventure you think of. A very versatile and dynamic dual sport. Not as heavy as the bigger twins on the market but much more capable and comfortable on the highway and faster roads then other smaller enduros, the F700GS really fills the gap as the best lightweight adventure bike in the market.
With such low mileage there is not a lot to do to the bike from a service perspective, but we did want to freshen up the fluids, give it an extended test ride to insure that everything operates as designed, and make sure the next owner has nothing to do for a long while except have some fun. We had one of our Master Certified BMW technicians complete a full Bi-Annual service which includes doing a BMW diagnostic check, renewing engine oil and filter, renewing brake fluid front and rear, checking the battery state, completing our 38 point safety inspection. All checked out great so we completed the Maryland State Inspection and extended test ride. Even though the tread on the tires was at 90% they were 6 years old and starting to harden so we replaced them with brand new fresh Metzeler Tourance tires. After that we gave it to our detailer to freshen up and touch up a couple spots and now the bike looks almost like it did when it was on the showroom being delivered to the previous owner as new.
Cosmetically the bike is in great shape. At some point there was a non-moving garage tip over on the left hand side and the guards did their job very well. There is a couple of scratches on the hand guard, engine guards and a small scuff / scratch on the engine case. We were able to clean it up and touch it up so it is not visible unless inspected super closely. Overall we very critically rated the bike a 9 out of 10 cosmetically. We rated the paint, wheels, seat, gauges, controls and hardware a 9.5 out of 10. Basically new. The grips show some wear (very light). Otherwise the bike looks new. Super clean and a great value for someone looking for a new bike but wants the savings a pre-owned motorcycle can bring.
