This machine falls into a special category for us. It’s just a year older than it needs to be to qualify as an ADVANTAGE CERTIFIED pre-owned BMW exclusively offered by Bob’s BMW. And though it’s due for a full fluid change or Inspection II plus Annual Service, this is NOT a PROJECT BIKE. In fact this machine has almost no needs mechanically or cosmetically, and it passes the tough Maryland Safety Inspection (MSI) so it’s ready to ride anywhere. So yes, this is a very good, very clean, carefully used and cared for BMW being offered here at Bob’s BMW in the heart of the Mid-Atlantic region.
While we did not get a full service history, we have most of it on file and this one appears to be perfect enough to probably just change the oil and filter, get on it and ride to California the long way, change the oil and filter again on the west coast (we can make suggestions if you wish) and ride it home again. But we feel the best value for long term ownership would be to complete the service we feel is due at this time and have a fresh starting point for everything on your new-to-you BMW sport touring machine. Our Master BMW techs enjoyed riding this one so much the standard 14 mile test loop ended up becoming 26 miles.
We opted to not perform the maintenance mentioned earlier even though we did install brand new Michelin tires, filled them with Nitrogen and installed fresh BMW front brake pads as they were needed for the MSI because of two factors: we have many customers who love to do the maintenance part so someone will get the easier sweat equity out of the transaction plus some deeper understanding and ownership of the bike, and on our end it allows us to schedule in yet one more customer for their spring maintenance needs (it’s always you before us) during this busy spring (Bob has at least one bike in the line) rush to the road. So if it’s the bike of your dreams but don’t have the inclination we have the maintenance estimate waiting and can do it all for you at a fair additional price, and that would make it a fully turn-key purchase.
This one was sold new at Bob’s back in early 2008 to one of our regular clients who traded it to us in 2012. Then after servicing it (new ABS unit and maintenance), we sold it to its second owner in 2013 – it’s had just the two owners since new. The bike shows little evidence of anything other than great care and, despite a few very small blemishes from a minor tip over, it shows exceptionally well up close and glistens like new from about ten feet – these images, taken rather hastily for us just don’t do this beauty full justice. You really do need to stop by and see it in person; ideally you’ll call ahead so one of our sales team will have time set aside for you.
It’s was pretty loaded up at the factory with ABS, rear Paralever suspension, front Duolever suspension components all connected to the ESA (electronic suspension adjustment), ASC (automatic stability control), Xenon headlights, the factory safety package, Tire Pressure Monitoring, heated grips, electronic cruise control, low rider seat, both rider & passenger seals are heated, stainless steel three-way CAT, adjustable tall windscreen, and an on board computer to monitor fuel, mileage and other functions. These machines also came with factory color matched saddlebags which are also key matched to the ignition, fork and fuel tank locks.
This one also has a few nice extras like a BMW GPS mounting cradle (ready for the GPS unit of your selection), a highly adjustable ZTechnik mounting arm so it’s always in the perfect location for your viewing, a stylish and highly functional BMW 28 liter, easily removable top case, a highly functional Laminar Lip addition to the screen to deflect more of the noisy air plus a set of 3 BMW liners – one each for the saddlebags and one for the top case. Upon very close inspection you’ll be able to see how clean this bike is – painted panels (with the exception of two very small areas), frame, driveline castings, exhaust system, front and rear seats, windscreen, multi-spoke alloy wheels, suspension components, plastic trim, controls and switches right down to the factory imprinted markings, rubber bits, and all hardware. We need to emphasize that the images you are looking at were taken after it was given a very fast and basic wash – this bike has not been fully detailed.
It starts, idles, shifts, handles, rides brakes and does everything perfectly. The ABS is in perfect working order, all the switches work smoothly, locks perform easily, all three bags attach or detach smoothly and the read out on the gauges is without flaw. The heated seats and grips will still keep your hands and rears comfy on a chilly morning and the luggage will carry all you might need for a day, a week or a month on the road with the possible exception of Bob’s all-time favorite accessory, a tank bag, so be sure to ask the accessory experts at Bob’s to price one out for you along with the latest BMW Navigation 6 GPS unit which will snap right into the existing cradle.
The next happy owner will receive the complete factory tool kit as provided when new, 3 BMW keys plus the BMW owner’s manual so be sure to put this BMW at the top of your spring bike acquisition list!
