BMW has long been considered the originators, or the Übermeisters, if you will, of the Touring Motorcycle segment. From the smooth and comfortable R60/2 of the 1960s to today’s powerful and luxurious R1250RT or K1600GTL, no one has ever done it better. The thing is, you can sit astride any one of the BMWs from their long touring bike lineage and feel the quality, the intelligent application of high performance engineering, and the purpose-built design that’s ever attentive to the real-life needs of touring riders worldwide. In this long and ongoing evolution, the R1150RT was the model that carried the torch from 2002 to 2004. Those were good years in the development of the “Oilhead” twins, and the R1150RT earned legions of faithful admirers.
This pre-owned R1150RT, gorgeous and very well equipped, is ready to make you one of those admirers too. Having over 27,000 miles — moderate mileage by BMW standards, and for its age, averages out to less than 1,600 miles per year! — we would say this bike is just getting warmed up for the many tours that lay ahead for its next pilot. Will that pilot be YOU? Yes, if you’re lucky. This bike — with LOTS of life and many, many thousands of miles left in it — is value priced to appeal to current or would-be touring riders who know a great opportunity when they see one. For less than six grand you are out the door and on your way to a big continent full of wonderful, unforgettable destinations — all in comfort and confidence. Don’t hesitate!

Cosmetically, this motorcycle presents a pretty picture. The Titan Silver Metallic paint gleams in the sunshine in a way that will make you proud. Of course, at this bike’s age and mileage you would expect to see some signs of experience, and this one does have some. You’ll see some scratches on the outer edges of both mirror housings, slight surface marring on the saddlebag lids, and the typical darkened patina on the exhaust headers. But none of these things is a glaring defect. When bikes come to us we evaluate them on a very critical 1 to 10 scale. This bike had some 7s and 8.5s on its initial cosmetic evaluation. But then our in-house professional detailer had a chance to go to work on it. Somehow, he magically turns 7s and 8s into 9s and 10s so that by the time the bike hits our showroom floor it practically looks new again! (We think he does it using pure sorcery, but no one is complaining — they only wish they knew his secrets!) The only other cosmetic issue worth noting is a minor pot-hole caused rim ding on the front wheel. Our concerned inspection and test ride has shown, though, that this has no effect whatsoever on the safety, performance, or handling of the motorcycle.
Our BMW Certified Master Technicians took care of every aspect of the bike’s maintenance and preparation. They gave it an Annual Service which includes changing all engine and drive-line oils, replacing the oil filter, a full ABS system bleed and brake fluid change, along with an overall 38-Point safety inspection. We installed a new BMW sealed AGM battery, and replaced some miscellaneous fasteners and small bits elsewhere on the bike. The tires had been replaced by the previous owner just a short time before the bike came to us and still have more than 90% of their tread remaining. We did fill them with nitrogen, however, to improve their performance and longevity. Then, after an extended test ride to thoroughly check every function and component again, we put it through the rigorous and intensive Maryland State Inspection process (one of the nation’s toughest inspections) and it passed 100%. Thus, a reliable and magnificent thoroughbred stands ready to transport you and your passenger to your dreams.
