It’s not too late to join the FUN!
Round 1 of Bob’s High Mileage Polar Bear Challenge is complete are the results are in! The winner for highest miles among female riders (and among male riders!) is our good friend, long time customer, and Bob’s ambassador Lisa Hecker, riding a 2008 R1200GS, and clocking in with a whopping 2,776 miles! The male winner is our new friend and customer riding all the way down from Brooklyn, New York to join the challenge, Neftali Colon! Neftali clocked in with 1,665 miles, riding a 2007 Yamaha!
Round 1 winners received brand new winter riding gear donated by our gracious sponsors, Rev’it and Gerbing heated gear. Lisa is deciding between either the Rev’it Kelvin or Element glove and Neftali is deciding between either the Gerbing T5 or G3 heated gloves.
Round 2 is now open for registration and we encourage you to join in the fun, you too could be a winner! To date we have 24 riders on all brands—Harley’s Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha, and Kawasaki—not just BMW’s signed up! So please, help us spread the word that you do not have to ride a BMW to participate! Not to mention folks are traveling from surrounding states–New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Virginia–to register in the challenge!
Each month, now through March the two riders (1 male, 1 female) with the highest miles will WIN winter riding gear provided by Rev’it USA and Gerbing Heated Gear. In addition to monthly winners, two riders will be grand prize winners for riding the most cumulative miles (December through March).
There are still monthly prizes to be won and all it takes is one good month of riding to get yourself into the running for the cumulative mile grand prize! For more information on how to register and a full list of registration and check-in dates, read more…
Note to those of your currently registered, Round 2 check in is coming up January 31-February 1. I know it’s cold out there (really cold!) but you’ve got to ride to win!

Our team of certified sales advisors assisted over 350 riders last year, both current and new to the Bob’s family in their selection of new and used motorcycles—BMW’s, Harley-Davidsons, Hondas, Ducatis, Suzukis, Victorys, Kawasakis, Vespas, Yamahas, Triumphs, Urals, Piaggios, Moto Guzzis, Can-Ams, Big Dogs as well as several sidecar rigs and trike conversions in the mix. Some were true antiques, others classics and a smaller number were what we call Project Bikes. Many of our patrons live nearby and we see them on a regular basis but others came from miles away, as far as Canada and Hawaii, wanting a greater adventure and more memorable experience when taking delivery of their motorcycle. The record for riding home from Maryland on a bike purchased from Bob’s now stands at approximately 4,600 miles!
Our team of certified apparel advisors helped customers in person and online to select the perfect riding gear for their needs and budget from great vendors including BMW, Olympia, Rev’it, KLIM, First Gear, Gerbings, Schuberth, Arai, Scorpion, Sidi, Shoei and many others. Some of that protective riding gear got used and we are so very thankful it was there to take care of them! Our team of parts and accessory experts provided electronic and personal guidance on accessory purchases from Airhawk, GoPro, Ohlins, PIAA, Cardo, RKA, P3, Kryptonite, J-Pegs, Clearview, ZTech, Garmin, Dow, Illium, R&G and dozens of other top level suppliers so worldwide adventures or simply the commute to work would be that much more enjoyable.
Our inventory and shipping team, in addition to insuring it’s all on the shelf when needed and then making it all go out on time and arrive as ordered, also helped our certified BMW parts experts deliver thousands of individual orders of genuine BMW parts plus countless reproductions and aftermarket replacements so our friends and customers here in the US and in dozens of other countries around the world could maintain, repair, refurbish and restore their motorcycles at home in their own garage or work space while hundreds and hundreds chose to bring their machines to us so our expert technicians could provide all the care they desired so they could simply go out and enjoy the ride. From crush gaskets to complete transmissions we’ve got everything you and your bike require to remain safe, roadworthy, comfortable and fun all year long.
In 2013 Bob and Suzanne hosted two very exciting group tours taking along with several dozen friends, customers and even some fellow dealers. They went to Morocco with Edelweiss Bike Travel and then to South Africa with Ayres Adventures for once-in-a-life-time group motorcycle adventures…LUCKY! The good news is if you were unable to join-in one of these adventures Bob is already planning a 2015 group adventure to Cuba! Anyone interested is encouraged to take the survey below so he can plan the best trip possible based on customer input…please serious inquiries only are asked to complete the survey.
Just before the 2013 Open House which turned out to be one of the biggest turnout yet, Bob and the team spent days updating the Vintage Museum, rotating in many new and never before seen bikes from Bob’s personal collection. We (Bob especially as the vintage BMW’s are his true passion) especially love sharing the machines, artifacts, memorabilia and other pieces of BMW history in the Vintage Museum with guests.
Customers helped us remain involved and engaged raising significant amounts of money for very worthwhile causes like the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation via the Ride for Kids ® events as well as support several other local non-profit organizations to help insure we are giving back to our community wherever possible. Throughout 2013, we were also able and happy to send out thousands of dollars in door prizes to BMW clubs all across the country because they too are part of our family!
Without people like you none of this would be possible. We do this because we want to, it’s our chosen profession and we do this so we can deliver the Ultimate Motorcycle Experience to as many people as humanly possible each year and have fun doing it because it is our passion. We hope that shows when you visit the dealership, shop online, and every time we speak or exchange an email!
We are in the works planning an exciting year ahead! Please stay tuned for our forecast on what’s in store for 2014 and may this year be the Happiest New Year for you, your friends, and family!
Bob, Suzanne and the entire team at Bob’s BMW.

Bob’s plans to open on time if possible on Friday January 3, 2014 but we won’t know what the morning brings weather and accumulation wise until we get our behinds out of bed, shovel our driveways, clear off our cars and head out. So if you are trying to reach us before 10:00 AM it’s justpossible that we are still clearing our own driveways or manicuring the dealership parking lot so the real crazies can make it in — they always do so we’ve got to have a spankingly clear parking lot — or perhaps not enough of the team have made it in yet to answer all the calls we have been getting lately for parts, accessories and gear. It’s always sunny and warm someplace that people need their BMW fix — and that’s what we are here to take care of.
The winner of the helmet doorprize is Christopher Zeleznik from Alexandria, VA. Christopher won a NEW Scorpion EXO R2000 helmet!
Congratulations from everyone at Bob’s BMW Motorcycles!

Stay Connected With Bob’s Through Social Media
By now, we hope all of you who receive our newsletter are also fans of one or both of our Facebook Pages. Our main page, Bob’s BMW Motorcycles, has over 5,000 fans and our secondary page, GS Riders of Bob’s BMW, has been a little slow taking off but is growing day by day so if you are a GS rider or know any brand dual sport rider, be sure to LIKE the page and pass it along. Bob’s created these pages for the same reasons you have personal facebook pages, to stay connected with our friends; these pages are not used as a channel for selling. The pages are meant to help us keep motorcycle enthusiasts near and far updated with what’s going on at Bob’s and in the motorcycling world as a whole. They also serve to provide enthusiasts with an online resource to talk amongst each other, and is a place to share cool photographs, stories, videos, coordinate rides, and whatever else the user may like.
In addition to our facebook pages, we also have a Bob’s BMW Motorcycles Facebook group. Ugh—multiple pages, separate groups—how is anyone supposed to keep this stuff straight?! You will have to ask Mark Zuckerburg that; we just do our best to stay on top of it all so we are not left behind! Long story short, the group is more like a forum, managed and driven by its members (currently 630), whereas the two pages mentioned above are where we (the dealer that you LIKED) post regular updates and information. Try to think of it like this, you LIKE pages similar to being someone’s friend but you JOIN groups to become an active member of that group.
That’s all for Facebook, but did you know Bob’s also hosts its own YouTube Channel? The foundation is built and we have been loading videos periodically over the years. Our goal for 2014 is to start loading videos created at Bob’s on a more regular basis, but for now click here to subscribe and as videos are uploaded you will be notified.
How about instagram…do you have an account? Bob’s does! It is the newest addition to our online presence and so far we are loving it. Pictures speak a thousand words, especially in this industry so please be sure to tag us #bobsbmwmoto next time you find yourself posting a great picture you snapped while on the road or off-the-road!
Next on our social media to-do list is LinkedIn! Once we are set up and ready to get linked in with you, we will let you know!
This winter Bob’s BMW Motorcycles in Jessup, MD is hosting its first annual High Mileage Polar Bear Challenge, proudly sponsored by Gerbing and Rev’It! All brand riders are welcome and encouraged to participate. This High Mileage Polar Bear Challenge is a cool and fun opportunity to do what we ALL enjoy best…ride…it’s that simple! With over 20 registered riders already, coming from states all around, we are looking forward to a winter of friendly competition. We will track miles on facebook and in our monthly newsletters so even those of you across the country can enjoy following along and cheer on your fellow riders.
The first round of the Challenge begins this month. Every month one male and one female rider will win prizes donated by the sponsors of the challenge, Gerbing Heated Gear and Rev’it! Plus, at the end of the four months, the male and female rider with the highest cumulative miles will be our Grand Prize Winners. Winners will receive great winter riding gear provided by our gracious sponsors and all participants will get bragging rights among fellow riders and an “I Survived Bob’s High Mileage Polar Bear Challenge 2013-2014” bike decal!
How To Register (There is still plenty of time!)
Registration must be done in person at Bob’s Service Department. Registration is open during regular service department business hours, Tuesday-Friday 9am-6pm and Saturday 9am-4pm (see below for specific registration and mileage check-in dates).
Each motorcycle will receive a FREE winter safety inspection by a certified technician at the time of registration. The idea is to have fun and enjoy a friendly competition but Bob’s want to do what it can to ensure everyone is safe in the process.
How The Challenge Works
To accommodate unpredictable winter weather and personal schedules, each round’s registration will remain open throughout most of the month but keep in mind the sooner you register your starting mileage, the better chances you have in winning! If by any chance you are not able to check in during the check in dates listed below, you are asked to purchase a newspaper, hold it next to your odometer and email that image to email@example.com. Please note this method of check-in will not be accepted on a regular basis.
You can participate in as many rounds as you like. You do NOT have to participate in every round but again, the more miles you officially check-in at Bob’s, the better your chances are of winning some great winter riding gear!
A special note to out-of state participants: We want you to join in the fun and we understand the challenge that the added distance from us creates for you (or you could look at it as a benefit!); however, we still require registration to be completed in person. If you are unable to ride to Bob’s for the monthly check-in’s, you can still participate in the cumulative portion of the challenge as well as at least one monthly round (as mentioned above, checking-in via email is accepted just not on a regular basis). To qualify for the cumulative, you must register in person and then return for the final check in; at which point you will receive your “I Survived” bike decal!

Finally, in Maryland every year the Maryland State Police hosts a Polar Bear Plunge to raise money for Maryland’s children and adults with intellectual disabilities. With our first annual Polar bear Challenge kicking off, we thought it would be fun to create a Bob’s BMW team to work together and raise money and/or have registered Polar Bear Challenge riders gear up and ride over to the event on January 25 at Sandy Point Park and represent Bob’s Polar Bear Riders!! Anyone interested in helping to get a team together, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Bob’s is always looking for ways to keep our customers happy and hopefully thankful to have us as their resource for everything motorcycling, so when new generations or styles come along, we always try to display the best examples of them to you. With the trend for trike motorcycles on the rise, Bob’s went to work and built a custom 2014 Magnesium Beige Metallic K 1600 GTL trike fully equipped with safety package: adaptive headlight, DTC, TPM; Luxury package: LED fog light, Electronic Suspension, Anti Theft Alarm; Bluetooth interface control; radio software; high seat; powerlet accessory; passenger armrests; topcase LED Brake Light; electric reverse; running boards; fully functional ABS, foot vents, stone guards.
We mentioned earlier this fall the trike build was in the works but are now happy to report the project is complete and ready for our customers to come and check it out! BMW Master Certified Technician Dave Grunberger really deserves a round of applause folks! While walking us around the finished product, Dave summed up this beast of a machine best by stating, “You’re looking at the best trike on the market, period. It handles perfectly (thanks to the extra wide front wheel), it looks amazing (check out the rear end with the custom horizontal tilted exhaust), it’s fast (just trust us…it’s fast!), it’s fun, and it’s comfortable. If you’ve gone from a bike to a trike or are considering doing so, look no further. The K1600GTL trike is luxury touring at its finest!
The trike is now on display and FOR SALE at Bob’s BMW! View images HERE!
The race season is officially over and as winter sets in our Bob’s BMW Sponsored Racer, Jeremy Cook is already planning his comeback in 2014. With purchases like the HP Race ECU, HP Race Calibration Kit and a few other high performance modifications; Jeremy believes he will be able to produce winning results for the 2014 season.
The 2013 season proved to be a battle for Jeremy dealing with issues that many across our nation are also dealing with today like the sequestration, job loss and unpredictable financial stability but he still tried his best to stay focused and push forward. He did exceptionally well considering the personal struggles he had to overcome this season; still earning a 3rd Place in the AMA Grand Nationals at Virginia International Raceway along with multiple top ten finishes in most of the classes he races for the Championship Cup Series (CCS) and American Sportbike Racing Association (ASRA) Pro Series. The final event for the 2013 season took place at historic Daytona International Speedway back in October, The Race of Champions.
The event started out on Thursday’s practice losing two fellow racers/riders on the track due to an unfortunate situation that set a saddened mood across the paddock; a tough reality of the roadracing sport and many sports like it, where one seemingly insignificant mistake can have such a grave outcome. The next day (Friday), racers set out to practice again and Jeremy had one thing in mind and that was to safely find the correct gearing for the Bob’s BMW, Dead Presidents Racing S1000RR, which proved to be difficult being that there are many factors to consider when getting the correct gearing like: Are you at race pace? Are your tires new or old? Are you running the correct fuel? Are you following the correct line? Are you hitting the Rev Limiter on the banking? What gear are you dropping to in the “horseshoe”? It may seem like you can get out there and get a ball park gearing and do just fine but with Daytona that is not the case at all. Trying to find the correct gearing while not at race pace is a waste of time so first thing’s first, Jeremy got to race pace and in his case, once he got there he needed less gearing to open up more top end so he could obtain a higher MPH without hitting the rev limiter!
After Friday’s practice the team headed to Orlando for the Inaugural AIM Expo to meet up with Schuberth Helmets and debut the custom painted Schuberth SR-1 helmet done by Andrew Swenson Designs of Richmond, VA; the helmet is currently on display at Bob’s BMW. Saturday was the first race day and things were looking up as Jeremy placed 7th in the Expert Unlimited GTO (25min) National Championship race, losing out to AMA Superbike Racers Huntley Nash and Lloyd Bayley and AMA Supersport Star Stefano Mesa. This race showed Jeremy that the weekend of National Championship racing would not be an easy event as he looked at the races he had coming up all had top 10 top 15 AMA Racers racing in them; those in attendance: Nico Ferreira, Tim Bemisderfer, Jason Farrell, Bruno Silva, Felipe Maclean, Lloyd Bayley, Shane Turpin, and even Mark Heckles (former WSBK and BSB Racer) along with a few others. Understanding his uphill battle Jeremy strapped on his SIDI race boots and did the best he could finishing 6th in Expert Unlimited Supersport, 14th in Expert Unlimited grand Prix (after going off track), 16th in Expert Unlimited Superbike (after going off track twice).
Although he didn’t walk away with any podium finishes he stated, “I feel like I learned a lot, I think in losing and struggling is when you learn the most, if everything was handed to you on a silver platter all the time how would you know to appreciate the winnings when they come? I mean I was able to watch some of the top privateers in roadracing go at it and in a few cases actually was able to battle with them myself. When they pulled away I watched their lines and listened to hear when they got on and off the gas. If you watch AMA, MotoGP or WSBK you always hear the announcers say well now that he got passed him he should just sit back behind him and go to school. That’s exactly what I did, I went to school. Who else can say they battled with Mark Heckles a former WSBK and BSB racers that raced with some of the greats like Troy Bayliss and Colin Edwards? I can! Daytona is a nightmare and a dream at the same time and I have been blessed to race there with some amazing talent, I can’t even describe the feeling of going almost 200MPH around the banking or what it’s like in slow motion to see Stefano Mesa come by you on the brakes into turn one sliding the rear tire to the point where it is squealing so loudly and when you swear he is going to high-side he drops the bike down to the ground and drags an elbow, it’s a beautiful thing.”
Jeremy plans to continue racing and depending on sponsorship responses and other factors he plans to race in the AMA for 2014. To help prepare for next season, he is planning to attend Colin Edwards’ Texas Tornado Boot-camp and any other classes he can.
Next year’s tentative CCS Schedule is already posted and everyone should try to make at least one event to cheer on our Bob’s BMW sponsored racer. Download schedule here.
The race bike and helmet will be in and out of the showroom throughout the winter so feel free to stop in to check it out and ask Jeremy questions if you see him. He will be at the DC International Motorcycle Show and the Timonium Motorcycle Show along with many other events at Bob’s in the coming months, when his race schedule permits.
Jeremy would also like to thank all of his team and sponsors: Bob’s BMW Motorcycles, REV’IT Race Suits, Schuberth Helmets, SIDI Boots, DUNLOP Tires, Sharkskinz Fairings, Andrew Swenson Designs, DrippinWet.com, Larry Pegram, Chicken Hawk Tire Warmers, Vortex Racing, Silkolene Lubricants, Stahlbus USA, Full Spectrum Power, Innovative Motorcycle Research, and Lockhart Phillips Racing. Team: Stephanie Moreno (Administrative), David Davis (Mechanic), Elise Randall (Photographer), Tara Mason (Assistant), and Travis Walters (Assistant).
