Great Opportunities to Save At Bob’s

90-yr-savings event card1

BMW’s UNSTOPPABLE Accessory and Riding Gear Savings Offer Ends March 31, 2014!

You saw what’s coming from BMW in 2014 at the International Motorcycle Shows across the country; locally motorcyclists attended the Washington, DC International Motorcycle Show and Timonium Motorcycle Show. Did you attend either show? Maybe both? If so, you should have received one of these amazing, limited time ONLY coupons (pictured above).

So NOW it’s time to take advantage of the valuable (serial numbered) coupon you received at the show! This exclusive offer ends this month and will NOT be extended. Purchases must be made IN-STORE ONLY… these are BMW’s rules and we can’t change them; we simply want to remind everyone out there this offer is ending SOON and you don’t’ want to miss out!

BMW Accessory Purchases
BMW Apparel Purchases
10% OFF purchases up to $500 pre-sales tax
10% OFF purchases up to $250 pre-sales tax
15% OFF purchases over $500 pre-sales tax
15% OFF purchases over $250 pre-sales tax
20% OFF purchases over $1,000 pre-sales tax
20% OFF purchases over $500 pre-sales tax

If you got the coupon at a show and lost it, then start looking; photo copies or a print out of this email may not be used under any circumstances. If you’ve honestly misplaced it please let us know and we’ll at least see if we can help in some manner but there is no guarantee as we can’t print these out. We had one customer whose dog really mangled his badly, it was almost unreadable but we made it all work in the end and followed the rules.

Our biggest disappointment came last year when a good number of these were never redeemed at Bob’s or any other BMW dealership for that matter. Seems a shame to let an opportunity like this slip away so easily.

With saving up to 20% off genuine BMW accessories you don’t want to hesitate. This is all the cool stuff that fits older BMW’s you may already own or the very latest machine from BMW like the R9T or a water cooled R1200GS, R1200RT or maybe even a new S1000R that in some cases may still be on the water for customers awaiting their newest BMW – it’s good for all of them even if it’s paid for and awaiting delivery of your bike so we can install it next month or even in May or June! Tank bags, saddlebags, GPS units, cylinder guards, different seats or windscreens, bag liners, top trunks… the list goes on and on as long as it’s genuine BMW stuff.

And don’t forget that this offer is actually two parts because you can also save up to 20% on any genuine BMW riding gear and apparel. Think about that – the newest gloves, boots, under layers and of course jackets and pants or even a new BMW rain suit can all be had for up to 20% less at Bob’s, with your show coupon.

But remember, you’ve got to bring that valuable coupon to Bob’s because BMW will not allow any mail order or e-commerce orders to be fulfilled. If you just can’t make it in, send your best friend with your coupon to buy the stuff you want and be a sport and tell them to buy something he or she needs too. So jump on our website or BMW’s website and do some pre-shopping and then get back on your bike or even in your car and make it to Bob’s to use your show coupon and save some money between now and Monday March 31, 2014 when this offer ends!

Your Mission For March

howard-co-art-new

Bob’s BMW and The Howard County Arts Council present Road to the Arts…12 art sculptures have been placed throughout Howard County in an effort to integrate art into the community and for the month of March Bob’s BMW is challenging ALL local motorcyclists to ride to as many of these ARTsites, take a selfie in front of the sculpture, submit your images, and you will be entered to WIN gift certificates to local Howard County restaurants…there will be SEVEN drawings!

How It Works

  1. Pick up a “Road to the Arts” map at Bob’s BMW and complete a very short registration form. Maps and forms will be available at the coffee station.
  2. Ride your motorcycle to at least 6 different art sites. The more you
visit the better your chances are of winning!
  3. Take a selfie in front of each sculpture (see rules below).
  4. After visiting your last site, send your pictures to hanna.creekmore@bobsbwm.com
  5. Get entered to WIN gift certificates to local Howard County restaurants. There will be 7 drawings: Four drawings for a $50-$60 gift certificate (must visit 6-11 sites to be eligible) and three for a $100 gift certificate (must visit all sites to be eligible).

Rules

  1. There will be 7 drawings: (4) for $50-$60 gift certificates and (3) for $100 gift certificates to great Howard County restaurants. Participants who visit 12 different sculptures will be entered into all 6 drawings. Participants who visit 6-11 sculptures will be entered into the drawings for the $50-$60 gift certificates.
  2. Participants must send ALL pictures within ONE email AFTER visiting the last site, to hanna.creekmore@bobsbwm.com by 11:59pm (EST) March 31.
  3. Each picture must include yourself in riding gear with helmet in hand so we can see your face, and the sculpture in the background.
  4. Visiting the same sculpture twice does not count.
  5. You do NOT have to visit all the sites in one day. You can visit the sites anytime between March 1 and March 31.
  6. You do NOT have to ride a BMW to participate!

NOTE: The sculpture, “Getting the Band Back Together,” at North Laurel Community Center is now a skate border and tricyclist sculpture.

A special shout out to Howard County Arts Council for organizing these ARTsites and Bob’s BMW also wants to thank the following restaurants for their gracious donations:

How Many Motorcycles Do You Have?

markWhen the newest addition to Bob’s team, Mark Singer was asked “How many motorcycles do you have?” He responded, “Thirty One.”

To which he received a reply of, “Thirty One?!” And he confirmed, “Yes thirty one.”

Mark came on board as the new Finance and Insurance Manager back in December and smoothly transitioned into the Bob’s family. With 31 bikes, you can imagine all of the interesting stories he has to share with co-workers and customers!

Many of the bikes in his collection he has just stumbled upon; your definition barn find. To be told, “If you can get it out of here today, you can have it,” is music to any do-it-yourselfer’s ears!

In his collection are Hondas, Yamahas, Kawasakis, Suzukis, Harley Davidsons, a Jawa, and a Velorex Sidecar but no BMW!

Mark explained, “I simply have never come across a BMW. By no means am I not interested. I would love to get my hands on a late 70’s, early 80’s airhead. Perhaps a R100RS.” He adds, “If anyone would like to donate a BMW to my collection, I would gladly take it, love it, and care for it forever and ever (LOL)!”

At which point I laughed and said, “Im not sure how many are going to bite on donating a bike to you but I do know there is a 1979 gold metallic R100RS listed in Bob’s project bike inventory. ” Ten minutes later he was emailing Bob for more information!

With 31 motorcycles (and possibly 32 on the way), one might wonder how he chooses which to ride one day to the next? Mark said, “The simple answer is whichever is closest to the garage door! (LOL) But in all seriousness I keep them all in rotation to be sure no season goes by that I don’t enjoy each and everyone.”

He is currently turning wrenches on a 1982 Honda CBX, a 1974 Velorex sidecar, and a 1953 Harley Davidson Head Bobber. Next time you stop by the shop, be sure to say hello and see how his project bikes are coming along!

Welcome to the team Mark. It’s great to have you here!

Trade In Helmet Program – We’re Investing In Your Safety

helmets2014-blog

Is your helmet 5 years or older? Not sure how old your helmet is? All new helmets are required to have their production date stamped on them so if you can’t find the date, you definitely need a new one!

Based on extensive safety research and testing, all major helmet manufactures agree it is important to replace your helmet every five years. Over time, the material slowly loses its protective qualities. As time passes, the EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam, hardens and after about 5 years the materials are no longer able to protect you in the event of an impact. Those of you with children are probably familiar with this. Similar rules apply to the protective qualities in car seats.

IMG_3366.JPGNot to mention if you weren’t properly fitted for your helmet, you very well could be riding around in a helmet that does not even fit which as you can imagine will not protect you as it is designed to do if you were in an accident.

About Bob’s Helmet Trade-In Program
In an effort to help the riding community stay safe, any motorcycle helmet brought to Bob’s between March 1 and April 30, 2014 can be traded in to receive an on-the-spot rebate equivalent to 10% of the value of any new helmet purchase. This offer applies to in-store only and is valid only for motorcycle helmets. Helmets traded in will be destroyed and disposed of by Bob’s staff. The offer cannot be combined with any other offer.

Bob’s stocks helmets in a wide variety of brands, colors, styles, and price ranges. Start the season off right by taking advantage of Bob’s first ever Trade-In Helmet Program.

NEW Feature to Bob’s Online Store

Screen shot 2014-02-25 at 4.19.41 PMHelp other shoppers make the most informed buying decision they can by leaving a product review on Bob’s Ecomm site.

Ever wonder how you used to ride without a particular product? Don’t keep that kind of valuable information to yourself, let other shoppers know about your favorite products and why they’re your favorite! If the BMW GS Dry glove really is waterproof and has kept your fingers dry and warm on more than one occasion, share that! Or maybe you’ve experienced the unfortunate and been involved in a motorcycle incident and if it weren’t for the gear you were wearing, the outcome would have been very different? Post this kind of information online! Hearing a specific jacket/pant/boot/helmet/glove saved your life sure would help a person make a decision that was torn between two products!

It’s like searching for a recipe online…Buffalo Chicken Dip A has a 4.5 star rating and 999+ reviews and Buffalo Chicken Dip B has a 2 star rating and 999+ reviews…the decision is so much easier and the user is so much happier in the end!

The best part is leaving a product review is easy and there is no login required! Next time you are browsing www.store.bobsbmw.com:

  1. Search for your favorite product
  2. Click on the product
  3. Scroll down below the product description and click Write Review

And one final step you can do to help fellow riders is to SHARE products with one another. After you leave a review, or if you come across a JUST IN product or ON SALE product, SHARE it with your friends on Facebook, Google+, Twitter, by email, and the list goes on…simply click SHARE found on the right hand side of the product page.

Happy Shopping!

Motorcycle Safety Training

motorcycle-collage2

According to the Maryland MVA website, “more than 90% of motorcyclists involved in accidents had no proper training,” yet motorcycle safety training is not required (unless you are 18 years or younger) to obtain a motorcycle license in Maryland?

We want to be sure our customers are aware that although some states like Maryland, don’t require it, it is available for riders of all skill levels, not just beginners. The upside of the courses for beginners is that by taking the Basic Rider Course you avoid the dreadful MVA lines plus you become eligible for special savings both through BMW and Bob’s!

In Maryland there are 20 MVA licensed and approved training centers. Each center offers courses for all skill levels, such as Basic Rider Course (BRC) or the Alternate Basic Rider Course (ABRC). There is also the Advanced Rider Course, Basic Rider Course 2, and Returning Rider Course. Some training facilities such as the Rider School at Howard Community College offer exclusive courses like Total Control Riding Clinic; Prince George’s Community College offers a Motorcycle Maintenance course; and the Glen Burnie MVA is now offering a 3 wheeler course. Many of the training facilities offer unique courses in addition to the ones listed above. You can view the list of facilities below and visit their sites to find available courses near you.

Knowledge is power and in this case, according to the statistics provided by Maryland MVA, the knowledge learned in motorcycle training courses provide riders a 90% better chance of avoiding involvement in an accident.

Below is a list of some of the schools in Maryland as well as a couple in Northern Virginia. Residents in others states, can find similar lists, by visiting your states, MVA website.

Finally, to any of our readers who are licensed MSF instructors, please take a moment to provide a direct link to your schedule of classes on our facebook page.

That’s right folks Lisa Hecker and Neftali Colon have done it again for the second month in a row! How are they doing this?

After speaking to both Lisa and Neftali, the simple answer to this question is they both love to ride! According to Lisa, she rides “for her mental wellbeing” which I know many of us can relate to! Like Bob’s trailers say, “Ride More. Stress Less.”

“With the proper gear, the colder temps don’t bother me,” states Lisa. And according to Neftali, riding year round is a must in his club. Neftali learned to ride 12 years ago and was taught by the same club he belongs to today, AMA Chartered riding club, Die Hard Ryders of Brooklyn, NY.

Long trips certainly help pack on the miles but for Neftali, most of his mileage is accumulated from riding locally and commuting to work. “I don’t drive much being that I enjoy how quickly I can get around on my bike. Sure does beat riding in a cage,” Neftali explains.

Lisa was able to get a great jump start for the cumulative portion of the challenge thanks to two trips planned to Virginia Beach in December along with commuting to and from work whenever possible and hunting for rally locations. As for January, her high miles were accumulated within just 6 days of riding! Lisa is part of Southern Maryland Adventure Riders which had a group ride coordinated for January that she participated in.

All of the participants are putting up a good fight and we are loving it! Dennis M. was just 198 miles short of first place for the men in January and with only 4 women eligible for Round 3, it’s anyone’s game! Not to mention riders are spread out among multiple states, some of which have been hit with snow harder than others…so take every opportunity you get to log some miles!

If you want to join the fun, it is not too late. Round 4 (March) registration is open February 28-March 28. You can still participate in the final round and who knows, you might have a big trip planned that month and will sweep the cumulative as well!

Reminder to Round 3 participants, check in is scheduled for this weekend, February 28-March 1.

If you are planning to attend this year’s rally July 24-27, “Rolling By The River” in St. Paul, Minnesota, and your bike was modified, customized, refurbished, or restored (partly or completely) at Bob’s or it was ‘thanks’ to Bob’s great inventory of parts and accessories that your bike is what it is today please contact us as soon as possible to join in on the fun we are planning.

You’ll be able to learn about and experience a beautiful, unspoiled country full of history that in some way touches most Americans from the people who live there. To learn more about the tour, the bikes that will be available, the general costs involved, and of course what’s included…click here. Please note, as this will be a custom tour with Bob’s the exact price may vary slightly.

Bob was convinced by Skip that the longer, 15 day tour is the way to go but we want confirmation from those of you seriously considering this awesome opportunity. So to help finalize the last few details, anyone seriously considering saying yes (or know someone who might be interested) to an experience your friends will be jealous of and you’ll be talking about for the rest of your life, is asked to please take a few minutes to complete the short survey below. Looking Back Over 2013

2013-BobsBMW

Our team of certified sales advisors assisted over 350 riders last year, both current and new to the Bob’s family in their selection of new and used motorcycles—BMW’s, Harley-Davidsons, Hondas, Ducatis, Suzukis, Victorys, Kawasakis,  Vespas, Yamahas, Triumphs, Urals, Piaggios, Moto Guzzis, Can-Ams, Big Dogs as well as several sidecar rigs and trike conversions in the mix. Some were true antiques, others classics and a smaller number were what we call Project Bikes. Many of our patrons live nearby and we see them on a regular basis but others came from miles away, as far as Canada and Hawaii, wanting a greater adventure and more memorable experience when taking delivery of their motorcycle. The record for riding home from Maryland on a bike purchased from Bob’s now stands at approximately 4,600 miles!

img_5724Our team of certified apparel advisors helped customers in person and online to select the perfect riding gear for their needs and budget from great vendors including BMW, Olympia, Rev’it, KLIM, First Gear, Gerbings, Schuberth, Arai, Scorpion, Sidi, Shoei and many others. Some of that protective riding gear got used and we are so very thankful it was there to take care of them! Our team of parts and accessory experts provided electronic and personal guidance on accessory purchases from Airhawk, GoPro, Ohlins, PIAA, Cardo, RKA, P3, Kryptonite, J-Pegs, Clearview, ZTech, Garmin, Dow, Illium, R&G and dozens of other top level suppliers so worldwide adventures or simply the commute to work would be that much more enjoyable.

Our inventory and shipping team, in addition to insuring it’s all on the shelf when needed and then making it all go out on time and arrive as ordered, also helped our certified BMW parts experts deliver thousands of individual orders of genuine BMW parts plus countless reproductions and aftermarket replacements so our friends and customers here in the US and in dozens of other countries around the world could maintain, repair, refurbish and restore their motorcycles at home in their own garage or work space while hundreds and hundreds chose to bring their machines to us so our expert technicians could provide all the care they desired so they could simply go out and enjoy the ride. From crush gaskets to complete transmissions we’ve got everything you and your bike require to remain safe, roadworthy, comfortable and fun all year long.

In 2013 Bob and Suzanne hosted two very exciting group tours taking along with several dozen friends, customers and even some fellow dealers. They went to Morocco with Edelweiss Bike Travel and then to South Africa with Ayres Adventures for once-in-a-life-time group motorcycle adventures…LUCKY! The good news is if you were unable to join-in one of these adventures Bob is already planning a 2015 group adventure to Cuba! Anyone interested is encouraged to take the survey below so he can plan the best trip possible based on customer input…please serious inquiries only are asked to complete the survey.

Just before the 2013 Open House which turned out to be one of the biggest turnout yet, Bob and the team spent days updating the Vintage Museum, rotating in many new and never before seen bikes from Bob’s personal collection. We (Bob especially as the vintage BMW’s are his true passion) especially love sharing the machines, artifacts, memorabilia and other pieces of BMW history in the Vintage Museum with guests.

img_6132Customers helped us remain involved and engaged raising significant amounts of money for very worthwhile causes like the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation via the Ride for Kids ® events as well as support several other local non-profit organizations to help insure we are giving back to our community wherever possible. Throughout 2013, we were also able and happy to send out thousands of dollars in door prizes to BMW clubs all across the country because they too are part of our family!

Without people like you none of this would be possible. We do this because we want to, it’s our chosen profession and we do this so we can deliver the Ultimate Motorcycle Experience to as many people as humanly possible each year and have fun doing it because it is our passion. We hope that shows when you visit the dealership, shop online, and every time we speak or exchange an email!

We are in the works planning an exciting year ahead! Please stay tuned for our forecast on what’s in store for 2014 and may this year be the Happiest New Year for you, your friends, and family!

Sincerely,
Bob, Suzanne and the entire team at Bob’s BMW.
