That’s right folks Lisa Hecker and Neftali Colon have done it again for the second month in a row! How are they doing this?
After speaking to both Lisa and Neftali, the simple answer to this question is they both love to ride! According to Lisa, she rides “for her mental wellbeing” which I know many of us can relate to! Like Bob’s trailers say, “Ride More. Stress Less.”
“With the proper gear, the colder temps don’t bother me,” states Lisa. And according to Neftali, riding year round is a must in his club. Neftali learned to ride 12 years ago and was taught by the same club he belongs to today, AMA Chartered riding club, Die Hard Ryders of Brooklyn, NY.
Long trips certainly help pack on the miles but for Neftali, most of his mileage is accumulated from riding locally and commuting to work. “I don’t drive much being that I enjoy how quickly I can get around on my bike. Sure does beat riding in a cage,” Neftali explains.
Lisa was able to get a great jump start for the cumulative portion of the challenge thanks to two trips planned to Virginia Beach in December along with commuting to and from work whenever possible and hunting for rally locations. As for January, her high miles were accumulated within just 6 days of riding! Lisa is part of Southern Maryland Adventure Riders which had a group ride coordinated for January that she participated in.
All of the participants are putting up a good fight and we are loving it! Dennis M. was just 198 miles short of first place for the men in January and with only 4 women eligible for Round 3, it’s anyone’s game! Not to mention riders are spread out among multiple states, some of which have been hit with snow harder than others…so take every opportunity you get to log some miles!
If you want to join the fun, it is not too late. Round 4 (March) registration is open February 28-March 28. You can still participate in the final round and who knows, you might have a big trip planned that month and will sweep the cumulative as well!
Reminder to Round 3 participants, check in is scheduled for this weekend, February 28-March 1.
