We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again until it changes, we just don’t get enough R1200C or Cruisers to satisfy our demand. Anytime we have the opportunity to acquire, via a trade in or direct purchase of a nice bike we can make better or an average bike we can invest heavily in and bring up to our standards or occasionally pay top dollar for an already perfect example we’ll do so. That attitude allows us to assist our current and future clients in the best possible manner and yes we get to earn some money in the process – it is the business we are in. This one arrived in average condition but with a one owner history that we liked. So we made an offer, it was accepted and then we went to work to turn it into a bike that will surely please the next owner. Will that be you?
Residing in New York all its life this machine was originally delivery in April of 2001 and enjoyed light but regular use resulting in just 12,000 original miles, all scheduled services and a warranty claim got a new set of chrome wire-spoke wheels from BMW installed as some of the earliest examples had some peeling issues. Other than that it enjoyed a fairly clean bill of health with regular service until recently when the original owner just found he was not able to ride it any longer. His loss is someone’s great opportunity to own and enjoy the classic BMW Cruiser – just like James Bond rode in Tomorrow Never Dies.
It was delivered with lots of extras as this was not a standard R12C but the Montana Limited Edition with tons of options including the chrome cylinder guards/highway foot rests, chrome saddlebag mounts with leather covered hard saddlebags, a true passenger seat with the cast chrome seat rail which also holds the flip up/adjustable back rest which can be remounted as a back rest for the rider if the passenger seat is removed. The bike is also equipped with the BMW driving lamp set that sports chrome top covers, the touring windscreen and the beautiful and separately optional chrome front engine cover. And for those new to the BMW Cruiser models these also came stock with real leather seats to match the saddlebags. It also has the optional BMW accessory plug outlet for using a battery charger or connecting your phone charger or other items easily. And to top all that off it has the beautiful aftermarket chrome rear wheel cover with BMW logo.
But there’s more, unlike most bikes in the market these beauties have metal tanks and fenders making them very classic in design and build quality. That had not been done since 1969 and the /2 series ended production. This R12C also boasts a beautiful set of chrome stylized mirrors and chrome and leather grips along with a double wall chrome header pipe set (almost eliminates bluing) that sweetly glides into a very sweet sounding great looking set of dual or 2 into 2 exhaust pipes. The front and rear wheel are chromed alloy rims with exclusive to BMW spokes that align on the edge of the heavy duty rims (the same design is used on the GS series models) which allow the use of tubeless tires. The entire drive line is also powder coated to not only match the frame but to make the removal of any dirt or road grime a very easy task –making more time to ride which is a good thing! It’s simply stunning from end to end no matter what part you closely examine.
OK, enough beauty talk. What did Bob’s do to make it a turnkey machine? We installed a new BMW battery, we did a complete Inspection 2 plus biannual service with oil and air filters, replaced the alternator belt, bled the ABS brake system, replaced several rubber parts including the air intake rubbers, replaced a few bulbs as needed, installed new spark plug covers, new rear reflectors (so it passed the MSI) and also spent more money upgrading (a full replacement) the rear master cylinder with the newest version that works better with the associated brake hose and of course installed new brake pads. We also replaced a mirror and turn signal which were very slightly damaged by the company the seller hired to bring us the bike.
It’s been out on the road with one of our BMW Master Tech’s for an extensive test ride, been run through the Maryland State safety Inspection and passed our more involved PPI process even though we cannot include it in our ADVANTAGE CERTIFIED program due to the 2001 vintage. But if it was a 2004 it would have been included and this one would have quickly qualified. This machine comes with the factory tool kit (hidden behind the left side chrome side cover), the original owner’s manual and a pair of keys. It arrived with just one but we’ve ordered the other a very special stylized piece you’ll want to have with this bike as it’s a sight to behold!
