Before we ramble on about how cool and perfect this forty-one year old classic little Honda is we’ll tell you what happened when it first arrived. Just about the entire staff at Bob’s was sure that Bob was going to hold onto it for himself. While his collection, now well past 75 machines that he shares through the Vintage Museum at Bob’s, is for the most part BMW focused there have been a few very interesting exceptions. The 1913 Indian single in his office is just one. He mulled it over for almost a week but then selected to take these photos and the rest is here for you to read and mull over yourself. We might be surprised one morning when he arrives and he says “I’ve changed my mind” so if you’re interested don’t twiddle your thumbs too long. An opportunity like this does not come around very often.
From what we can tell and have learned this gem has had just two prior owners. The first who never rode it until shortly before offering it up for sale and supposedly logged about 200 miles and number two whom we took it in trade from and rode it the 32.9 miles (+-) from the sellers home to his own. It was then parked, pickled and proudly displayed for about three and a half years. He never rode it again. The battery in it still takes a change and is not the original battery and there is currently fresh fuel with fuel stabilizer in the tank and we’ve started it. We can pickle it for the next owner for a small fee if their intent is to hold, show and enjoy instead of adding miles even though we are sure they would be very enjoyable miles.
The tires are recent additions as neither owner felt the originals should be used any longer. They were dealer installed before the last purchase was completed so those 32.9 (+-) miles were on the fresh rubber from about 3.5 years ago. We have the original tires and tubes so if you’re a collector like Bob who wants as much originality as possible they are included with the purchase to the right new home.

For the rest of those reading this we suspect you can immediately see that this classic, actually a genuine antique Honda is in that rarest Oh My God condition. Everything is original sans a few bits of fuel line, the spark plug and the battery and tires as previously mentioned. And we attempted to see if there were any comparable examples out there and we could not find anything. It’s certainly possible that there’s a few museums which have a fine example on display but we’d be very skeptical if another example is as perfect as this one is.
Under the seat, behind the side covers, inside the headlight, the hardware, fasteners, rims and spokes, seat and gas tank and those beautiful chrome fenders – it’s all in as perfect a level of optimum condition as you could dream for. The only minor cosmetic blemish are some surface degradation on the fork legs which can easily be seen in those images. So even if you don’t yet have a museum of your own this could be where you start. Or maybe this was the first bike you rode or owned and it brings back some great memories. Maybe you too are just forty-one years young and you’re going to own a bike from that special year. There are probably dozens if not hundreds of good reasons to make this yours.
And one of those could be that you love small displacement bikes and plan on caring for it but also adding miles and enjoying it as it appreciates in desirability and turns into an even more enjoyable classic example of where motorcycles evolved from in the 1970’s in the years ahead. Several original keys, the original factory manual and a few assorted spare parts are included along with the luggage rack you see in these photos but is not installed.
