What exactly is a #selfie? For starters it is one of the most popular hashtags being used these days. But by definition, a selfie is a picture taken by oneself using a handheld device (usually a smart phone) that is then uploaded onto a social media platform.
So now the bigger question, what’s the point? Who knows?! What was the point of big hair, stonewashed jeans, and high tops in the 80’s? Self-expression? Maybe, or maybe just because it was the current trend. People take selfies for every reason under the sun: they are bored, to document and communicate to friends where they are and what they are doing, they happen to look good that day so figure why not or maybe they want to get someone’s attention, they need a new profile picture, and the list goes on. Everyone’s reasoning for jumping on the #selfie bandwagon is different, including why Bob’s BMW has joined the craze.
Our intention is to increase awareness of Jeremy Cook, Bob’s BMW S1000RR sponsored racer, by launching a year-long promotion called #FunWithJeremyCook. Since 2011 when Bob’s began sponsoring Jeremy, each year the team puts our heads together to think of ways we can help Jeremy get more exposure as a BMW motorcycle racer, a privateer with an end goal to race alongside the big dogs in AMA. So, thanks to a wonderful suggestion offered up by Bob’s Service Advisor Darryl, the #FunWithJeremyCook selfie contest is underway!
Here’s how it works:
A final note in an effort to motivate those of you like myself who avoid pictures like the plague: next time you find yourself surfing the web, google “Worst Selfies Ever” but be prepared, some of what you see will be shocking! The point is, the odds of your #FunwithJeremyCook selfie ever ending up on this page are slim to none, so come on and have some fun with Bob’s BMW and help us cheer on Jeremy Cook #81!

Until that time comes, he will travel on weekends from track to track along the east coast, as far as Florida racing in the Champion Cup Series. Summit Point Race Track is the closest to Bob’s BMW and is considered Jeremy’s home track. He will be racing 3 weekends at Summit Point starting with Memorial Day Weekend and then June 28-29 and August 23-24. If you have never been to the track, let alone a race event, be sure to mark your calendars and check it out this year, track side at Bob’s BMW Hospitality Tent.
The hospitality tent provides you the opportunity to hang out with Jeremy and his team along with other spectators, enjoy complimentary sandwiches, beverages, and snacks, and even take part in a tour of the facility, led personally by Jeremy where he will explain how things work at the track and just what exactly is going on. Be sure to arrive by 10 a.m. if you are interested in the tour, there are strict check-in and starting times Jeremy cannot be late for!
Please be advised the hospitality tent is free of charge but there is a fee to enter Summit Point Race Track. The cost along with details of all the other great features and things to do at Summit Point including an amazing go kart track are available online.
One last important note, this year Bob’s BMW will be running an Instagram Selfie contest around Jeremy. Complete details on the contest are coming soon but in the meantime whenever you run into Jeremy, snap a selfie with him or by yourself (just be sure Bob’s BMW’s tent or trailer is behind you!), post it to Instagram #bobsbmwmoto # funwithjeremycook #motorcycling and you could be the lucky winner of a Moose Racing Rolling Bag! The selfie with the most instagram likes will win. Stay tuned for complete contest details.
Also coming soon, is a “Sport Bike Riders” page under the Community section of our website. Jeremy’s schedule will be posted here along with race reports, images, and some great resources for the sport bike community. As soon as it’s live we’ll let you know!
