2015 BMW R9T

Wow, talk about a hot bike and reluctant seller! This was and might still be Bob’s personal bike. We fully anticipated he’d be riding this one for quite some time on special days, using it as his daily and very sporty commuter, etc. after he spent considerable time and dollars crafting his personal vision with a bunch of staff input. Many clients have had us copy some and even all he created on their own machines since it was first introduced.

Today, after pretty much a full recovery paragraph three that addresses his original selling reasons is mostly a thing of the past he’s begun to reconsider this decision so the time frame to give this great opportunity serious consideration is shrinking by the day. In fact he plans to take it out for a good ride this weekend (07/29-31) to see how he feels about the riding position as it relates to his shoulder and neck. Bob and a few staff plus one or two prospective owners have already bumped up the miles to 2,316 as of July 27.

There’s a very impressive list of changes and additions to make this R9T sportier than most. He was also careful to not spend insane levels of money (something the staff was more than happy to help him do) while also doing a few things that no one else had done at the time – there have been a few partial copies constructed for our local clients since, but only a few.

The reason Bob said “sell it” was due to a massive shoulder injury (not motorcycle related) last April requiring extensive surgery and a long recovery, rehab and physical therapy process and is why he missed the MOA National last July. He won’t have a full range of motion, let alone his old strength or endurance levels for possibly 18 months from the surgery. Simply put, stretching out over the gas tank to grasp those sweetly positioned lower handlebars as he has enjoyed for the last 40 plus years causes him some serious discomfort in his upper back that hangs around for days.

Yeah, it keeps getting better but he figured if he wants to ride more this coming year it will be in a slightly more relaxed position and possibly days with shorter distances. He’s already working on plans to modify an F800GT-P which you might see on the road in the near future. Or it could be an F800GS which is one of his very favorite machines.

So his loss could be your gain as there is not another R9T out there like this one. Clearly it’s a one owner bike and was not a dealership demo even though Bob did let a small number of customers take his bike out for a ride to compare his set it up with the stock offering. All the original BMW items that came with other 2015 R9T’s came with this one; stuff like ABS, the special black rim wire spoked wheels, gold anodized upside down forks, mostly blacked out driveline and of course that beautiful black and exposed, clear-coated aluminum fuel tank.

As you’d expect all services were taken care of here at Bob’s along the way be it the 600 mile break-in service or the later annual service which was more recently completed. As standard we did a full evaluation (just like any used bike offered at Bob’s) and the MSI. When not being ridden it was either on display at the dealership (in the showroom and out front on days when Bob rode in) or parked in his personal garage/museum at home. Bob thinks it may have seen the rain but only once and it has never been dropped.

The extras are extensive and not all are things you just buy off the shelf. Bob started with a new set of BMW handlebars from an F800R (costly) which are lower and angled differently but not as radical as a set of clip-ons. These were cleaned out via manual machine work to create a slightly larger ID so a set of vintage, original Hella bar end turn signals could be attached making the stock (not nearly as attractive) signals go away entirely.

The rear end has a very clean and nearly hidden LED strip that has the running light and brake light under the very stylish and functional BMW aluminum rear seal cowling with the matching butt pad to create a small storage compartment. And this also shortens the overall visual appearance of the bike giving it very retro Café Racer appearance.

Of course we upgraded the stock accessory outlet to a Powerlet style as we do with all new and used bikes. The riders seat was upgraded to the embroidered comfort seat offered by BMW. We spent considerable time crafting the look Bob wanted with a combination of BMW and Rizoma goodies to create an original rear mud guard that also holds the license plate and rear lamp. Very clean and stealthy, we’ve duplicated this a few times for other R9T clients.

We added a very clean selection of Rizoma items including but not 100% limited to black and aluminum silencer tips, an under tail cover, machined riders pegs, front brake and clutch reservoir covers, blue anodized rear brake reservoir cover, air intake tip, a very sporty set of machined aluminum mirrors with contrasting black adaptors, machined top handlebar clamps, a wonderfully functional and snuggly fitting BMW tank bag and our own special side stand enlargement pad also crafted from high quality machined aluminum. And don’t miss that beautiful carbon fiber front engine cover – a sweet and costly upgrade.

Bob elected to not install any of the very sweet aftermarket machined valve cover sets we stock that are oh so drool worthy (we have a set on display on a current R9T Scrambler) which you could chose to add. There’s a long list of other options that you might also wish as you begin to make this your machine vs. the last owners special toy.

It is cosmetically immaculate and the tires have very even wear (Bob’s not a slouch in the saddle) and we estimate that the tires have a solid 80% on the front and 70% on the rear still available for the next owners enjoyment. They are the original Metzeler tires delivered with the bike by BMW and were produced in mid-2014 so the rubber is still quite young by all manufacturing and warehousing/retail standards.

In the end Bob was made aware of the fact that between cool parts and accessories and the labor involved he spent over $5,000 of his own money (that’s how it works when you own a dealership) to create this sporty beauty. He also knows, just like any other consumer, that he won’t get all of that back and maintenance is just the cost of having fun so we believe we’ve priced this one quite competitively.

So we suggest that you call and speak with one of our sales team and then stop by and check it out personally. See if it fits you as well as it did Bob and then give some serious consideration to adding it to your stable. And remember that he’s getting better every day, taking longer rides on other bikes, some with low handlebars. It’s always possible he could change his mind if it’s not claimed quickly. He does not need to sell it to start on his next personal project bike.

We can offer great financing via BMWFS to qualified buyers and it’s covered under BMW’s 3/36 factory warranty through December 21, 2017 which means it qualifies for extended coverage via our Advantage Certified program at reduced costs, qualifies for a tire and wheel policy and comes with the original owner’s manual and two ignition keys and one special one for removing the seat.
