Bob loves it when we get decent vintage bikes that are mechanically really nice, cosmetically good or better and need a little of our attention to be sent down the road but would also benefit from some easy weekend or evening TLC from the next owner to bring the bike up to the next level but does not need the expertise of the skilled technicians at the dealership. This is one of those wonderful machines!
A nice honest vintage BMW that could be a daily rider or go beyond depending on your mindset and budget. It really needs nothing to go out and enjoy right now and we just did a full tune up including completely rebuilding the carbs, new plug wire set, air filter, fresh engine oil, set the timing and install new plugs. It starts, runs and rides just as it should and you'd want it to.
The tires are not fresh, but they appear to be in excellent condition and look like they've not seen 500 miles of use if that much. There is an estimate we created so if the next owner would like to know what we'd charge to do everything we could think of you can come look at the bike and we'll share it but most of it is stuff that does not need to be done
now and some of it is stuff like new grips, foot peg rubber covers, oil pan gasket, new bulbs, new cables, etc. which many of our customer love to do themselves.
It appears to be 100% original paint and while not perfect it is pretty decent and has an overall nice patina and looks good sitting or rolling down the road. It has the very desirable large tank and standard bench seat combination that looks great and functions the best for most riders. There is also an original and now quite hard to find Flanders handlebar fairing and it has a set of almost indestructible MCM mufflers that are in great shape and have a ever so slightly throatier sounds than stock pipes. There is also a set bar end turn signals that could use some tightening up when you change the grips for something more stock oriented.
The mirrors are functional but clearly not stock or of a correct aftermarket style but we have several options in stock should you wish an immediate and reasonably priced upgrade. The fuel tank was relined before it arrived and appears to have been properly done and a new cap gasket might be in order but it is the rare locking cap and we have a key although it is snug. No tools or books arrived with it but they too are available at additional cost. If the Flanders fairing is not your style, we'll gladly take it off.
The best part might just be that this nice, clean low mileage and straight and mostly correct machine is very inexpensive so we suggest not waiting too long. Most of the vintage bikes we've had to offer and have sold fairly fast have been in the $10,000 to $16,000 range over the past few years. And yes, the numbers on the frame, engine and original ID plate all match and are correct and it has a clean, clear Maryland title.
