Some of you have been following my very lucky event of winning a 2010, BMW S1000RR from Bob's BMW in Baltimore, Maryland. The grand prise in his Ultimate Bike Rally 2 for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. Well, I flew back this last weekend to receive it. I had a wonderful time and was treated fantastically. Great people at Bob's and I felt I had met long lost friends.
I have to admit I was very nervous when I was handed the keys to drive away the first time. Sweaty palms for sure. Man, what a great bike! Much easier the ride than I thought. Smooth and loads of controllable power.
Saturday was the shops open house and I received many, many handshakes and pats on the bike. "One lucky guy, for sure."
The picture shows Charlie Goss handing me the keys. One heck of an exciting moment.
Now, just for those of you who wonder how I'll get it home. (Yes, many have offered to drive it for me.) It should leave this Friday on a truck and arrive the week of May 10th at Tri-Valley Motors in Livermore. My BMW shop.
Thanks to Bob Henig and all his great staff for making the trip so enjoyable.
Take care,
Chuck Brown

Henry Winokur Receives the Richard B. Schreiner Memorial Award
–March 1, 2009
On Saturday the 21st of February at the Maryland (MD) Motorcycle Safety Program's yearly instructor's conference, Henry Winokur was presented with the Program's major (and only yearly) award: the Richard B. Schreiner Memorial Award "for excellence in Motorcycle Safety". It's the 3rd year for the award. It's quite an honor and he was so shocked as to be rendered speechless-something his boss at MVA admitted is very hard to do to do Henry.
The award was given for Henry's 20 years of instructing and supporting the program and the10 years ago he helped get Maryland to comply with the Federal regulation that allows the use of headlight modulators. (A Modulator is a safety device that causes a motorcycle's headlight to "flicker" at a rate of 4 times per second.)
Congratulations to Henry and we look forward to your next 20 years as an instructor.
Rinse Cycle
–March 2, 2009
BMW will be showing examples of self-made “Real Riders” ads in the next few issues of our eNewsletter. Here’s an F 650 GS (single cylinder) owner Elsie Smith’s own ad with the caption “Rinse Cycle,” as she is riding her bike through a water crossing with a big smile on her face. Elsie is a regular at Bob's and a GS enthusiast.

Scott
Huff bought his GT at Bob's and this is what he did with it and is
doing with it as we speak. Here are some photographs he emailed back
to us.
After 8 days on the road, I finally arrived at Rancho Bernardo on
Sunday. I tried to squeeze as much into my trip as possible, but I
needed 2 weeks to do everything I wanted. Day 1 & 2 were travel
days to get to western Iowa. The next 4 days were spent sight-seeing
in South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana. The last 2 days were spent traveling
to Rancho Bernardo. The weather was mostly perfect – some rain,
some hail, some COLD temps and some HOT temps, but mostly mid-50s
at night and mid-70’s during the day. Here’s a quick summary.
I had to decrease the resolution, hence the quality, of the pix to
keep the size of the email down.
Just to show that not all GS pukes keep their bikes clean!

BOB-arazzi …Spanning the Globe!
Attention
all you Far-Flung Fashionista! Send us a photo of yourself wearing
a Bob’s T-shirt or Bob’s Road Crew hat from some interesting
spot anywhere on the planet and we’ll post it proudly here.
It’ll be like you’re (almost) FAMOUS! Hey, you there at
the Grand Canyon… Devil’s Tower… the Arctic Circle…
Rome… Rio… Beijing… or even beautiful downtown Baghdad,
pull on a Bob’s shirt or hat (c’mon, we KNOW you’ve
got one) and click the shutter.
Photo Tips:
GOOD photos are especially appreciated (because more people will want
to look at them!). Fuzzy, low-res shots from your cell phone might
not be of high enough quality to get on the site. Composing your shot
with signs or landmarks in the background showing us your location
is a good idea. And of course, posing in a way that the shirt or hat
is close enough to be recognizable in the photo is a bonus—not
to mention we’ll get to see YOU better too. Please include just
a few details about when and where the picture was taken; 5000 word
travelogues are not necessary. We want to see your Bob’s “fashions,”
but more importantly, we want to see happy faces in interesting places.
Here's a video of a journey across Texas on a BMW motorcycle set to the tune of Johnny Cash and "I've been everywhere, man". The twist is, Texas singer/songwriter Brian Burns swapped out the towns in the original song for Texas towns, cities and communities.
The journey took 10,641 miles to complete and I had a ton of fun along the way. Some towns such as Spring Lake (formally knows as Clabbertown) ceased to exist 100 years or more ago, and others like Mill Creek and Val Verde were nothing but rural communities with no true city limit signs. In these instances, a post office, church or significant landmark was photographed as proof of visiting that location. Bartleville doesn't exist in the Roads of Texas, atlas, or any mapping programs and there have been lyric references to Bartonville which was secured by photograph.
The staff at Bob's enjoyed this YouTube video so hang on, because the ride is fast.....
