This was the scene at Bob's BMW at 8:00 AM Saturday, June 18, 2005, after the first six bikes had been taken in for service.
Over 16 BMW riders were in line a full hour before we opened. And by 9:00 AM, 22 people were waiting! Why the big lines? Well, unlike our weekday service which is done by appointment, Saturday service is provided on a first come first served basis. Those who appreciate the high level of service we provide everyday at Bob's will gladly show up early to have their maintenance completed in time to get in some good Saturday riding time. Of course, keeping riders riding is our prime objective. Even on weekdays we gladly accommodate customers who arrive unannounced for oil changes and tire service. And thru-travelers with service emergencies always get priority attention so their journeys can continue with minimum interruption.
The customer at the very front of Saturday's line said he really wanted to be SURE he was first, so he arrived with his breakfast and some reading material at 6:45! But since several of the staff regularly show up early, everyone had been served coffee and donuts by 7:30 — by none other than Bob himself. Our service advisors John Gallivan and Darryl Carmichael, along with department manager Josh Neff (who's getting married in a couple weeks!) got busy writing up the repair orders, and by 8:30, bikes were being rolled onto the technicians’ lifts. The early-bird riders among the first wave of completed jobs were actually heading out to enjoy the day well before 10:00 AM!
As the day continued, still more BMW riders stopped by to see about getting some quick maintenance. By day’s end the Bob's team had serviced 30 customers’ bikes and no one was turned away. All sorts of jobs were performed, from pre-purchase inspections, to brake fluid changes, to checking out an electrical glitch, to routine scheduled maintenance work; not to mention a steady stream of new bike set-ups. (We’re happy to report lots of new BMWs are being sold at Bob’s this season!) And with one of our techs off for the day, all this was accomplished with only five out of our usual six on duty! All our mechanics, of course, are fully trained BMW certified technicians, and three have even earned the added status of Master Technician.
Even those customers who had to wait a little longer for their work to be finished didn’t mind so much because, well, a visit to Bob’s is always FUN. Our parts and accessory staff was sure kept busy gathering up goodies for their bikes. And judging by the crowd in the apparel section, a lot of folks were happy browsing through all the latest gear to select something new to wear for the season. Visitors who stepped into our Vintage Museum noticed several new additions. Of special interest was Fred Tausch Jr.'s 1970 R60/5 with almost 630,000 miles on it! (See articles in BMWON, May ’05, and Motorcycle Consumer News, July ’05.) With the shopping and browsing done though, many simply headed out to our shaded picnic area for a delicious lunch served by Dave's Catering. Dave’s incredible grilled pork sandwich was the most popular selection, but that was just one of the tasty options.
We think this Saturday’s scenario perfectly illustrates why so many say that being a Bob's customer makes them feel special. If you're not yet one of our ambassadors, or haven't visited us for a while, why not come by and spend some time rediscovering Bob’s BMW? As you wander through all the departments, you’ll be glad to see some familiar faces—ones you’ve come to know and trust over the years—and there will be some new ones as well. Take a moment to get acquainted. Check out all the displays of exciting new merchandise we’ve added this year too. And don’t forget, Bob’s always has, by far, the region’s largest inventory of new and used BMW motorcycles—in addition to an extensive selection of pre-owned machines of other brands.
In the end it just comes down to a simple fact. No one works harder to deliver great customer service than the 35 dedicated individuals on the staff at Bob's BMW. We’re proud to say that it’s you, the riders we serve, who keep telling us we’re one of the very best motorcycle shops in the entire country! We have to take you on your word because, after all, you’re BMW riders, so we KNOW you get around.
As one of Saturday's customers stated, "Why would you want to go anywhere else?"
