A 2006 production model BMW K1200S has set a world land
speed record at Utah's famed Bonneville Salt Flats!
The motorcycle, piloted by 56-year-old Andy Sills, of San Francisco,
CA, reached an average speed of 173.57 mph and top speed of
176.789 mph after two runs on the vast, white salt flats where
hundreds of land speed records have been set and broken since
the early 1900s in a variety of automobile and motorcycle classes.
The K1200S was running in the 1000 - 1350cc stock, partially
streamlined, naturally aspirated motorcycle class. |

We at Bob’s are sure that you share our great joy
in the fact that BMW has once again joined the fray of competitive
performance motorcycling. All the engineering and development that
goes into it ultimately translates to better, more exciting bikes
for us to ride, not to mention a noticeably higher profile for our
brand out there on the street. We always knew BMWs were the best
for many reasons, but now with some tangible performance results
on the record, we can ride with even more pride! And how ‘bout
the age of the guy who broke this record? That says something
about staying forever young. Keep it up, Andy. You’re an inspiration
to us all!
You’ll be interested
to know that the actual bike that broke the Salt Flats
record was equipped with a Remus
Titanium Sport exhaust EXACTLY like the one on Bob's
sales demonstrator! It’s just one of several popular performance
modifications that are available from Bob’s for the K1200S,
as well as most other models. New owners are having fun personalizing
their bikes with great cosmetic options too. (Because, let’s
face it, you’re probably not going to actually ride at 176
mph — you just want to LOOK like you can go that fast!) Cool
stuff such as the Boxer Cup Decal Package, the new MRA Touring Screen,
a new side stand conversion (so your bike performs standing still
as well as it does in motion), ergonomic handlebar risers, custom
painted panels and wheels, and much more.
Have YOU ridden this bike yet? While we
certainly must insist that you not
try to meet or beat the new land speed record on local roads with
our demo bike, we do hope you’ll come by for a test ride
and at least get a taste of what’s possible with the newest
machines from BMW. Awesome!
