Rides!
Jim Ford Rides

What’s it all about? Yes — RIDING! (We occasionally have to remind some folks.) And while we think most of you are perfectly capable of picking your own routes and destinations, we like to play road-rider guru from time to time just for the fun of it. Various people on our staff here, including Bob himself, will be leading some Sunday Casual Rides, maybe even a weekend over-niter too. The rides may have a culinary theme, a particular destination such as a rally, or just to get out and tour some local great roads. (See more details below) Come along and you're instantly a member of our not-so-exclusive family of fun-lovers known as Bob's "Road Crew." Watch the calendar on this page for upcoming Casual Ride dates, as well as the ever-popular Road Crew Meetings, whose main purpose is, frankly, less about the ride and more about the destination -- usually a tavern!

Now for the more serious minded: check out the The Art of Riding Smooth with Jim Ford. Our friend Jim Ford of The Riders Workshop is dedicated to showing riders of all levels of experience that they can get more pleasure from motorcycling, not only by sharpening their abilities, but also by enhancing instincts and attitudes. Go for a day's ride with Jim and he'll teach you the three skills of an accomplished motorcyclist: Knowing Invisible Roads, Reading the Road, and the Art of Riding Smooth. And guess what ... you'll have a BLAST doing it!

Casual Rides at Bob’s are meant to be, well… casual, so apart from basic safety considerations which we always take seriously, the “rules and regulations” are kept to a minimum. Here is all you need to know to join us for the fun:

  • Rides will start at Bob’s BMW unless otherwise noted in the event descriptions above.
  • Meet at 9:30 AM for a departure at 10:00. Please arrive with a FULL tank of gas, ready to ride!
  • There is no preset distance and duration of the ride. Each will vary according to the whim of the leader.
  • Riders are expected to wear safe and sensible riding apparel that is appropriate for the prevailing weather conditions.
  • The ride leader will conduct a cursory safety inspection of each bike before the ride (tire safety being the main point) and he or she reserves the right to exclude any rider whose bike does not meet minimal safety standards. A simple set of group riding safety guidelines will be discussed before departure. Pacing of the ride will depend on the skill level of its participants.
  • Rides will be cancelled automatically if any of the following conditions exist: active snow fall, ice on road surfaces, all-day heavy rain predicted, or when any other extreme or dangerous weather condition is forecast to affect our region. (Remember this is supposed to be fun, not a test of fortitude.)
